manipulator must play placement match before he is permitted to play, it was posted last weeks thread that this is required - if he has not by match time, he will be given time to play his match before his SEAL match begins - failure to do so, or turning up late will result in a walk over awarded to Fusion Slugs - I have posted that placement games must be played - I will not bend the rules any more.
What a week! The front runners continued moving forward, and two of the teams that i had predicted to challenge the front runners had a tie. An analysis of the games played from week 5 is at the conclusion of the Week 5 thread, but with the following updates:-
Zerocraft [4] def QED Krrn & Co [2] - the final match to be played from the precarious 3-2 position was between the undefeated Rythos of Zerocraft, and the leader of QED Krrn and Co, Krrn. Both silvers, both quality, and 3 games would decide their fate. Talking to Rythos before the game, I knew he was feeling the pressure and wanted to finish the job for Zerocraft. There were 3 games, a brief summary of which is as follows:-
Game 1 Shakkura's plateau - Rythos goes FFE into a 7 gate timing, which is just to strong for Krrn. Protoss imba
Game 2 Calm before the Storm - selected by Krrn, this was a good map choice. Krrn gets a very early expand (on the exposed side for some reason) and Rythos 4 gates, knowng it was a macro map. Krrn's roaches hold the push (lose the natrual but take the back expansion) and Rythos eventually runs out of steam, and is too far behind in eco - Krrn takes the game about 10 minutes later
So it all comes down to Game 3 - i can barely imagine how both of these guys were feeling, knowing that the result of this map would change the outcome of the match entirely. Krrn would pick up an amazing draw if he won, and Rythos would feel pretty let down if a draw occured after being 1-0 up in the series, and 3-2 up in match score. It was Rythos' map choice, and he selects a map he can FFE on - shattered temple.
The game starts, and Krrn, thinking rythos would FFE (it seemed pretty logical), goes for a 7 pool. if Rythos has gone FFE, this is a build order win, and QED will take the draw. even if he isnt FFE'ing, Krrn has a chance to get the lings in Rythos' base and take the victory. But then something unfortunate happens, rythos scouts it, walls off completely at the last second (and it really was the last second, the pylon was dropped as lings were on his ramp), and from there it is a pretty standard game. Both players try to sure up their frail economy, but Rythos Forcefielding the ramp and killing Krrn's natural while roaches are helplessly in Krrn's base is the nail in the coffin. Rythos has won, and secured the win for Zerocraft.
But then you think about just how close Krrn came to coming back from 0-1 down and getting a draw - oh so very close. yes he did a 6 or 7 pool, but it wasnt blind. it was based on what he had seen in game 1, as well considering the remaining map pool - and shattered temple was literally the only other map that could be FFE'd on without insane building placement.
So grats to both guys for a great match, the perfect match to finish a tight fought series. When QEDJenkins took the ace match in 2 quick games, we were really concerned (grats by the way - Mazei is a really good player and you handled him with ease)
Other Matchups
Has anyone got the results of the HoH vs Mixed Lollies game?? seriously i want to know what happened!
Preview - week 6
Although i didnt think it was possible, the points table is now split even more than it was before between the top 5 and bottom 6. There are stragglers in the top 5 and bottom 6, and This week could be the one that determines who could finish first and second. Taking a look at the matches in order:-
QED Mixed Lollies v Zerocraft Although i am not sure about the gamescore, i can only presume mixed lollies was able to handle HoH. Not that the HoH guys are bad, they arent, they have a talented team with a lot of depth that must be respected, the mixed lollies team is just a stronger team on paper.
This will be the match of the week for mine, but not because it is the top of the table. the reason this will be interesting is that this match could determine whether Mixed Lollies are able to get more points than TA for the Season. the reasoning is as follows:-
1) Zerocraft is good, very good, but i dont think they have the depth to beat both TA and Mixed lollies this season, especially with the 3 plats per week being introduced this week. Could Zerocraft beat 1 of these teams? Possibly, but to say that they will beat both is a stretch. As TA and Mixed Lollies drew with each other, their record vs all other teams will determine who finishes no 1.
2) Now, we know that TA have beaten the Perth Penguins, making that match a must win game for Mixed Lollies. But that is in the future.
3) As Zerocraft snuck past QED Krrn and Co, this is the battle of the undefeated teams - and if Mixed Lollies lose, than all TA will have to do is draw against zerocraft in the final week to do better in the points differential.
How Mixed Lollies and TA deal with Zerocraft could determine the final score. Not that other teams cant sneak in wins against both teams, and both of these teams must be on their guard to ensure that an unexpected loss doesn't occur. But, doesnt just thinking abotu this game and the pressure it puts on TA potentially just make you salivate? If mixed lollies smash zerocraft, then TA would have to be concerned about the game against zerocraft in the final round. Add that that if zerocraft are able to sneak through with a draw or a win against Mixed Lollies, this is a scary proposition, as TA was only able to draw with Mixed Lollies.
Prediction: Draw. the ace will be essential for this match, as both teams will be keen to secure the 3 match points to ensure they draw at worst. And although Mixed lollies go in being the favourite on paper, the Zerocraft monster is yet to really show they can mix it with the top 3
VB_sober solders v QED Krrn & Co
I am not sure i would like to be VB this week - as i predict Krrn and Co to come out swining and taking no prisoners. With a draw against fade early in the season, and then a tight loss to Zerocraft last week, questions are being asked as to whether Krrn & Co should be in the top 5. And looking at the points table, with VB on 4 and Krrn & Co on 7, if VB were to defeat the QED team (as they did the very stoic slugs last week), they both move to 7 points, and VB are in striking distance to the leaders.
I have seen the VB boys saying they will finish the season strongly, and this could be the week it begins. a win over Krrn and Co would really announce their presence in the competition.
Prediction: Krrn and Co by a whisker. While VB would be feeling good after a convincing win last week, the Krrn and Co team has such depth they can call on. Add to that Krrn and co will be really keen to bounce back after last week, and i think they will just have too much for VB. But if VB win, it makes the mid section of the competition really really interesting
ToR v HoH
ToR! You get me excited than let me down with a tie with TCP. although TCP dont have to points to reflect it, they are a fantastic team, and so are you! This week i think is where you show what you have got and move into themid section of the ladder to give Krrn and Co and VB a hurry up. I have been seeing good things with ToR, including an apprenticeship program with their higher players, as well as heaps of clan activity. This team is really that - a team. If the apprenticeship program kicks off, and these guys skill up over the next few weeks - heaven help any of the top teams that underestimate them and dont put their A team out against them. These guys really have the potential to cause upsets towards the back half of the season, and could slaughter any team on their day.
HoH - I have no idea how you went in round 5 so i cant really comment on your chances in this matchup. all i will say is that with Venom as your ace, it is always possible you will get at least 2 points each week from him alone - there arent many players that will be able to take Venom by the end of the season. the rate at which he is improviing is off the charts.ClSmooth is also very good, and has moved up two leagues from bronze to gold in about 8 weeks. give him a few more weeks to start smashing plats, and HoH suddenly becomes a team that makes the big boys nervous
Prediction: hard to call. If venom wins, i think HoH could get a draw. If Venom loses, it could even be a whitewash.
Fusion Slugs v Perth Penguins
Notice how the the discussion for the Zerocraft v Mixed Lollies didnt have much to say about Perth Penguins? That is how this team is rolling this season. Completely under the radar ready to strike. Coming off the bye, they will be ready to rip their teeth into the fusion slugs. With only a loss to TA this season, the Perth Penguins are contenders for the top spot if they can beat Zerocraft, and both QED teams. and looking at their line-up, this is more than a mere possibility.
Good old slugs, we all love you, but you might have your work cut out for you this week. The penguins are quality. Benad, it is time to rally the troops and keep the morale up, because it could be a big number of games against you this week. But with each loss the Slugs will become tighter as a unit - and if they keep working hard in SEACL #3 i will likely be writing about how completely invincible this team is. Keep your chin up boys, you are probably the most manner clan in the league, and we all support and appreciate the guts it took to put your team in this season.
Prediction: Penguins. If the slugs could get 2 points and lose 4-2 i think it would show improvement from them as a team. Especially if the silvers in the slugs can sneak in those 2 wins, will give them confidence for the rest of the season
Fade v TCP Marinu Dropu
These two teams are probably the most confusing of the season. Fade, with their draws with amazing teams, and then TCP that can go from white hot to ice cold in a heartbeat. to say i have no idea what is going to happen this game is an understatement. at 3 and 2 points respectively, both teams really need to kick into gear and get some wins before those few teams below them start getting points - and suddenly it is a race to avoid the wooden spoon.
I think both of these teams are underperforming. If we had said at the beginning of the season that after 10 matches between them, neither team would have a single win, you would have been laughed at. both of these teams are better than their record indicates, and this week is where they show it.
Prediction: predicting both of these teams is a nightmare. i should just draw a name out of the hat. If TCP turns up with their a team playing well, i think they could dispose of Fade. but if TCP continue the form we have seen this season, Fade should get there. tossing a coin would probably be more likely to predict the results of this one, as thinking about it turns my head in circles..
So that's it for another week! feel free to tell me whether you think my predictions are right/wrong and why!

Pretty sure we play them in the final 2 weeks of the competition?
You are completely correct. it is QED Mixed Lollies that have beaten the Perth Penguins, meaning that is the Mixed Lollies beat Zerocraft on thursday night, TA must win the final two games of the season, against the third and fourth placed team, to keep in step with them. all in all, very interesting.

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

Question, what results would Krrn and Co have to achieve to reach the playoffs?
I am not sure there are playoffs. Finishing number 1 in the division means you win as far as i can tell.
That being said, i dont think there is anything stopping the teams from having their own finals series, for say the top 4, especially if it is all done on a night and streamed.... semi finals and finals, with 1 playing 4 followed by 2 vs 3. then winners duke it out for the championship...
Up to the big bosses though.
