Tournament Organiser Guidelines

First of all, a big thank you for voluntering to be a staff on sc2sea! A warm welcome abroad to our team!

We have received an overwhelming number of applicants, so i made sure to only pick whom i thought was the most dedicated, would work well with the team and most importantly had the time. Experience is always good but that can be gained.

It is nice to be involed in this site, but it does require time and effort to be good staff member. I wrote these guidelines to make it easier for you guys to start.

Creating the tournament.

+ [Setting Up] +

1) Create the news post about the tournament (If its already done, ignore this step for now)
Only certain staff have access to post site news so if you don't have it yet
  • Create a "news post" about the tournament under the non-public forums i.e in this forum! I will later move it under latest news.
  • Copy n paste the format and template from the previous tournament post and change the details accordingly.
  • To capture the code like bold/size/color easily, click "QUOTE" at the previous tournament post. Then copy n paste everything in your new tournament post and get rid of the Quote tags. Saves alot of time this way.

2) Create the tournament (If its already done, ignore this step for now)
The way the site works is you have permissions to edit/manage only the tournaments you create. Only staff members can create tournaments so i forgot to give u permissions, let me know.

Go to here, then click "New Tournament" at the bottom left and fill up this information

Title: (Copy n paste from news post)
Category: Blank
Type: Single Elimination
Players or Team?: Players
Number of players: 128
Date: (You can just ignore this)
Description: (Copy n paste from news post)

The tournament auto generates the brackets by itself once the tournament is full.
If its start time and the tournament is not full, click "Start Tournament" and the brackets will be generated with some spots getting byes/walkovers.

Managing the tournament.

+ [Managing] +

Usually just 1 person runs the whole tournament. So it will be very busy at the start so be prepared to be 100% occupied for the first hour of the tournament. After the first few rounds it gets ALOT easier to manage and u even start watching games from the semi-finals onwards, or doing your own stuff, just remember to keep your eye on the channel.

1) Stay in the tournament channel(s) throughout the tournament. The two most important tasks would be attending to questions/helping and updating the brackets with results. Some players report results in channel instead of PMing you so you gotta monitor the chat channels. Brackets are updated by clicking the ">" icon next to the players name. If you make a mistake you can click the "<" icon to regress them. If you have any problems with walkovers or cheating or diamond players in a BSG tournament, you don't have to remove them - simply advance their opponent.

2) Alot of newbies may ask silly questions already in the FAQ like when do i start my games or ask for the bracket link etc. It is very important to be professional and never lose ur cool no matter how many times they ask u the same questions or annoy you by being lazy and not reading. A trick to free up your time is to store in your copy n paste (crtl+c, crtl+v) "Your answer is in the FAQ here http://linktonewspost and the brackets are here http://linktotournamentpage ", so when tournament newbies spam PM you with a silly question in the FAQ, you can just paste them that line so u can free urself up and move on to answering the next question.

3) alt tab back to update the brackets (as soon as its reported). make sure your sc2 settings under graphic options is in "Full Windowed Mode" The SC2 output is EXACTLY the same but this mode lets you alt tab instantly without the annoying wait. also check out the website chat (not so often) to see if there are any players asking for help there, sometimes pple cant log into sc2 or say they cant make it for the tournament in the chatbox.

4) Pay attention to the brackets to note any competitors lagging behind. This is especially important. Two players who havent played might end up slowing the whole tournament down. E.g if everyone is in round 3 already and you notice players still in round 1, msg them on bnet and find out whats happening. If needed dq both of them, meaning the round 2 player gets a w/o.

5) Be very familiar with the DQ rules - 15 mins no show = walkover. And the disconnection rules. Any other disputes (rare) please consult nirvana, mezza, tournqiet, skybreaker or any sc2sea admins for further clarification before making the decision.

6) Try to host standout games to get Streamers inside, who will be busy streaming the games. This has less piority and is done more after round 2-3 when your time is freed up.

7) Updating of threads.
Once the brackets are out, change "sign up link is here" to "sign ups closed, brackets are out here"

Lastly, after the tournament -
  1. Collect the replay pack from the winner of the tournament and upload it to the site here. Follow the same format for the title etc. i.e "xxx Replay pack - Community Open #xx" It must be done by the same day.
  2. For the COs, you need to msn/skype me the winners Pay Pal email address, if he doesn't have one ask him if he has a friends he could use and if not let me know. For the BSGs, a short interview with the winner is needed. Skybreaker has done this brillantly so look at his examples in previous posts.
  3. Once the tournament is over, put everything but the banner and winner in a spoiler tag.Should be like this

    Banner IMG
    Winner: xxx
    Download replays here!
More Info <----- (This is the spoiler)

8) Finally, there might be a bug which comes up in the tournament bracket code where you cant advance the winner. In this case, just leave it as it is, and manually inform the players who they are supposed to play. We are working on fix for this.

Yeap that should be it I would recommend leaving this page open while you run the tournament the first 2 times.

Organisers who have shown they are valuable and trusted can transition into full staff members whom have slight perks like full tournament permissions(edit any tournament), news posting permissions, mod permissions, access to our private staff forums and more !

Look forward to having you as a permanent member of our team
