I was watching inside the game and someone asked an interesting question about Zelot charge. Will there ever be a time when people start to manually use Zelot charge individually. Which was instantly laughed down however I thought about this a little harder...
You can click on and off auto cast on Zelot charge. There are times when you dont want Zelots charging. If you have a group of zelots selected and cast charge you have to click on a unit. This is not that useful. All your zelots charge a single target. However some more interesting results come from moving closer to an army then turning on charge. Also slicing zelots and charging into an army you can see as you approach produces some interesting results as well. It really did get me wondering if this one of those areas where micro could significantly increase a protoss performance.
tbh i always wondered why protoss never turn it off and manaully do it more often once a few more zealots are in range, often see them caught on each other as they often charged the same target.
so much effort, but yes, i think there may be a time where people micro the autocast on charge. I remember day9 talking about zealot archon against banelings - when the banelings come, have the zealots charge backwards to escape the banelings, and let the archons take care of them

charging onto what, though?
Can see charging them one at a time though to reduce splash from banes. That would be pretty epic in itself.
I'd say between, blinks, splitting HT, storming, forcefielding and positioning collossus, I doubt most players would find the spare apm to manually Zealot charge aswell.

just any friendly unit near the back of the army, like the probe you bring along to build pylons or another zealot. I'm pretty sure zealots can just charge to a friendly unit without attacking it
edit: nevermind just tried it out, zealots friendly-fire when they friendly-charge

yep they can its just no1 ever does it cos protoss has more important things to worry about than our mineral dump unit
Its a lot of extra micro i'd imagine, not in itself but on top of everything else. Plus I always saw zealots as ling slicers/shit in the way of the good expensive stuff toss doesnt want me to kill, not a unit you would micro the hell out of

That's mostly the idea I have with zealots. A nice meatshield that CAN do a lot of damage if they connect, but not the real damage dealers of the army.

I toggle it off so I can get a surround on terran units. stops their stutter stepping when zealots encase them.
like send 4-5 zeals to attack front, leave 12 or so to keep moving around the flank while my stalkers attack from front, toggle charge on an boom, terrans surrounded.
personally I toggle it off just so that they don't get killed before my army gets there. I switch them on for killing some remaining units. Although...I do tend to leave it alone.
So appreantly if you delay charging and activate when more zealots are in range (as opposed to a zealot or two activating thier charge at a time) you can get a better surround on armies?
It's really annoying to see your zealots charging around behind the zealots already attacking.

It's similar to using zerglings/banes, when you flank them slightly then a click to get a surround.
