This next interview is very short and concise, not as long as the previous one, so do read every single word of it! She is cute, capable, casts games, coordinates events, and is well-known to most people. (Aww that last one wasn't a 'C'. Well I guess she is 'celebrity-like'!) Yes, I didn't typo, it's a 'she'!

This week we have the lovely JacziE!!



crazerk: haha ok firstly.. do people call you jac-zie, j zie, or zie?

ziE: ziE is preferred!

crazerk: do you have siblings with similarly cool (unique) names?

ziE: My real name is not Jaczie, it's Jaclyn!

crazerk: ooh. so how did you come up with jaczie? was it a nickname given by your friends?

ziE: "Jacz" was my initial nickname during the IRC days. Then one of my good friends felt like adding "ie" to everything, like anj-ie, tom-ie, but "jaczie" kinda stuck, so here we are!

crazerk: ah i see i see. sooo did you grow up playing games? e.g. in your teenage years. what did you play?

ziE: Ah, crazy -- I started playing PC games since I was about 8, and I've seen my brothers play earlier than that. My brother was a computer science major, so his machines get upgraded all the time, so I always get the old ones. I got my own PC when I was 10 or 11! Black & white, 386. Haha. I played word & math games on it.

ziE: My first & most memorable games should be Dune 2 for RTS; Gabriel Knight, Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle and Legend of Kyrandia for adventure games; and old Sid Meier games like Civilization & Colonization and I loved Master of Orion!

crazerk: I PLAYED DUNE 2

crazerk: so what was it like growing up playing games? i mean, were parents ok? did guys find you like pretty cool?

ziE: My parents really never gave me a hard time about playing games, or maybe they never understood what I was doing on the computer. Haha. I slept really late -- almost 2am every night playing the original StarCraft on Battle.net and getting into school at recess (9am+) instead of 7am... but my parents never scolded me at all. I think the important thing was I got really good grades, so they let me be. Hehe.

crazerk: LOL
what school were you from? (I thought she was from Singapore/was Singaporean originally!)

ziE: Born and raised in Manila (Philippines) with a full Chinese ethnicity.

crazerk: ahh so the 'filipinos can sing' stereotype is perpetuated :P i've seen your ukelele clips haha :P

ziE: No, haha I can't really sing well -- wish I could though!


crazerk: sooo anyway, being a gender minority, it would seem natural that you get alot of male attention. any funny/interesting experiences to share in that respect?

ziE: Everyone is very respectful to me in this community -- but maybe it's because they know I'm old! *grin. I got harassed a lot back in StarCraft & Warcraft III online when they find out I'm a girl. It's better in StarCraft II though, surprisingly. I learned to deal with it, probably made me a tougher person online too.

crAzerk: Yea that's kinda annoying. But it works well in RPGs, can get free stuff. My WoW characters are female and I recall when I was levelling I just had to /dance and someone would give me gold LOL.

ziE: A friend of mine gave me her copy of StarCraft since she couldn't play online, since they didn't have internet at home. So I went on Battle.net the first time back in 1998!! I automatically joined channel "pinoy", and there was a few people in there. They were lacking 1 person for a 4v4 on BGH, so that ended up being me. I had absolutely no idea how to play, so I just made gateways & mass zealots. A few minutes later a group of mutas flew into my base and my zealots started dancing around. I didn't know what to do -- I was so embarrassed ahaha.

ziE: After the game, they talked to me and asked me to join their clan! I was really surprised because they were active solo'ers as well, one of them was so happy when Zileas (!) joined his game. They've been good friends of mine since then, like big bros.... unlike now where I'm the big sis. *sigh*

crazerk: Mine's funnier - the first time i played sc1 on bnet, I actually typed 'power overwhelming'. I thought cheats worked! So embarassing too my opponent was laughing at me. Can't rem if i won though.

Anyway, you have done quite some casting, including the recent event with mezza. Do you enjoy casting? What do you like most about it? Any memorable moments?

ziE: Casting is awesome -- it took me to places I never thought I could go. My first LAN gig was in Hangzhou, China for 1 whole month with the best Warcraft III players then... such as Grubby, Moon, Sweet, Zacard, Sky, Gostop, Xiaot and ToD.
That experience was amazing for a neophyte caster like me. I'm not a "professional" or awesome caster, I think I'm "OK". But there were few choices for WC3 casting back then so I always get the jobs! (grin)


Blizzcon 2010!

I've been to Germany & Korea multiple times to cast. But casting was a hobby and never to make any money of it -- my main focus was to write and do eSports articles. I got to travel to cover events as well -- like to France, Italy, USA & China.

crAzerk: You did writing as well?

ziE: Yea! I took my writing & coverage pretty seriously! Like this preview for the WC3L finals for Four Kings, I went through all their match histories, map choices, win/loss records. Lol -- ToD came back to me and said thanks for giving info to our enemies. Anyway, I wrote the same for all 4 teams so it's even!

crAzerk: Lol! That sounds awesome! I wish I was around the scene earlier so I could read all such articles.
Anyway, what would you do more for SC2/e-Sports in SEA if you had the ability to do so? In other words, is there anything you want to see change?

ziE: I would like to do what I used to for WC3 -- but alas, age + responsibilities creep up to me. The scene is pretty awesome right now, I hope to see more players and growth and support for the SEA players!

crAzerk: If you could have one superpower what would it be?

ziE: Definitely teleportation!

crAzerk: Alright let's end off w a final qn - Can we have 3 random facts about you? Anything interesting that you don't mind letting the sc2sea community know

ziE: Well --
1) I like to eat and cook, and my Facebook uploads would attest to that. I have albums dedicated to just the food I eat! So that means I also enjoy cooking.
2) Music & art is one of my frustrations in life -- I wish I could draw/sing/make music. People always tell me I can write pretty well, but I just haven't had the time to sit down and start that.
3) Also, I love the water/ocean -- been a scuba diver since I was 12. So - yay!
