Streaming: Simple Question / Simple Answer

Hey guys, I have a fairly simple question related to streaming and using Xsplit/Jtv. I've looked through youtube and found HDPheonix's video which was all very helpful (thankyou!). But the main problem i'm having is poor sound quality and I don't know how to change the bit rate with xsplit. I see that HDPheonix adjusts it on the video but I cannot for the life of me figure it out.

If anyone could give me a quick answer it would be very helpful. Also feel free to ask your own questions about streaming software.

If you go to settings > channels > edit, down the bottom of the edit screen there will be an audio bit. Change the bitrate there, I use the max bitrate because I can't stand bad audio quality.

question: Why does my mic stop working on teamspeak when i load up xsplit.

i fixed it once when i was told to turn off exclusive mode in the advanced settings of my mic. However the problem has returned...

Another workaround is I simply disable and re-enable my mic after xsplit loads and then i have to restart teamspeak to get it to work again. I dont mind doing this however my mic is not picked up on xsplit when doing this.

Any tips?

Make sure your mic is set to default communication device in recording devices and make sure the little mic symbol in the main menu of xsplit is set to unmute. Hope this helps

never used teamspeak but have had problems with xsplit and skype
if you can't find anything in the options i would recommend finding yourself a copy of Virtual Audio Cables
You can find a guide on how to set it up on root-destiny.com
Simply set your mic to the virtual cable and then mute your speakers

Streamed a couple of games tonight, if someone could take a look at the past broadcasts to check for quality
would be cool.

I'll be streaming my ladder sessions regularly when I'm comfortable with the stream setup and bugs.

Would streaming at a higher quality make the stream more choppy/lag for viewers with bad connections?
I'm currently streaming at 420p I think, I want to push it up to 720p but don't know how it affects viewers

From my experience its your own upload speed to the server. 99% of the time is because your upload speed is too slow, its never because viewers dont have the download speed to watch it, cause they can always switch to a lower resolution if it lags. basically in sg u cant stream 720p unless you have fibre optic and what affects the choppiness imo is the FPS.

This is correct. Best way to see if its your upload or the users download that is making it choppy is to watch the VOD after on twitch.tv.

I have heard that you need about 1Mb/s upload to ensure a 720p stream. Download speed doesn't matter. Check your actual upload speed using something like http://speedtest.net/. ADSL 2+ is generally ~0.8 Mb/s as far as I'm aware. I switched to Annex M (thank you Internode) and now I get a bit over 1 Mb/s.

That would be expected, wouldn't it. Your computer has to process more information as soon as you are using a capture tool. Lower your graphics settings will fix the problem, though you'll probably want two lots of settings, one for streaming and one for when you play.

Reduce the viewport scale. I use 30% personally.

This guy actually knows what he's talking about.

The other solution, which I'm planning on doing at some stage, is to upgrade your hardware. Remember, when you are just playing the game, your computer only has to worry about processing the game information. When you are streaming, your computer is processing all of the game information, then it is processing all of the screen information a second time, converting it to a form suitable for upload and then uploading it to the streaming site. And it's trying to do all of this faster enough to appear as real time. If you normally run your game on Low settings when just playing, I don't think you're gonna have a beefy enough computer to stream.

Of course I could just be talking out my ass. Someone jump in if that last paragraph was complete bullocks. I would like to know what I've got wrong.

Sometimes you just need a better computer

Computer Lag when you start your stream = Computer hardware not up to par
FPS Lag for every viewer = Upload speed cannot handle the quality you're uploading at
FPS Lag for a couple of viewers = The user's download speeds are not good enough

Remember guys, simple questions, simple answers. To me upgrading the computer is kinda complicated, having to go out and buy parts and then install then install drivers. Best 'simple' solution for him at this point, is to just reduce viewport scale.

I did quote you in my reply. :P If it works, fantastic, if it doesn't he needs new hardware.
