Working Adult Starcraft 2 Player

Hi there...

I guess, everyone should be 'addicted' to a game so that they can relax after a hard day's work... and of course, my game is SC2..

Any working adult, who is also married, playing sc2? Is your wife/husband supportive?

Haha...

I work fulltime (5days, 40 hours a week). My GF lives in Adelaide (I live in Sydney), so every 2 or 3 weeks I go and spend my RDOs (Rostered days off), or extra days from swapping, to go see her. Usually I am super tired when I get home from work to play. So I really only play on the spare RDOs that I'm not in Adelaide. However just in the last week in order to prepare for the upcoming MLG, I've literally been playing 20 games a day after work, despite working 8 hours, forcing myself to play despite being tired. Although playing tired isn't very effective practice it's the best I can do. If you play before work, you better hope you don't get on a losing streak because the worst feeling is having to go to work on the back of a losing streak and be shitty for all 8 hours when you rather be hitting that search button. So right now my life is Work/Sleep/StarCraft rotation. My girlfriend is okay with this for now because she understands what a big opportunity MLG is, she was at WCS and experienced the atmosphere. She also understands StarCraft is not my priority.

Work is my priority, because without an income, I don't feel I would be responsible enough to keep/sustain either my girlfriend or my hobbies around. We both understand my direction and the future we are aiming for, so StarCraft as my hobby has never been a problem between us. Infact I taught her how to beat an insane computer after reading Legionnaire's blog about teaching his girlfriend.

I absolutely applaude those out there with the guts to try to make both their hobby their job aswell (Pig comes to mind), in the current state of E-Sports, especially in a small market like Australia. I personally have gave that up last year. Not saying I don't think it is plausible, just that it probably isn't for me.

After MLG I'm probably going to give up StarCraft-time to make room for visiting Adelaide, and also spend sometime my other areas of interest, such as Dancing and Magic. As much as I love playing this game, there is so much more this world has to offer.

I'm not giving up StarCraft, I'm just giving up some StarCraft-time, after MLG. Hehe. I'm a competitive guy with a bit of an ego so a game like StarCraft will always remain a hobby of mine. There is no way I can imagine pursuing a career in gaming though, that went away along with my ex - Who was nowhere near as supportive as someone like Dot or Livi or Zepph or Pam. Reading Dot's interview on how she supported Pig's decisions actually made my eyes watery.

I've been working as a croupier at The Star Casino in Sydney for the last 12 months. I'm fortunate enough that because of the massive amount of game-time I put in before I started my full-time job, I have developed strong mechanics and an incredible knowledge regarding PvX MUs. This has made my return to the game a rather smooth one. Figuring out the current meta-game, watching some current VODs of Protoss winning and creating gameplan/builds that suit how I want to play, do some practice games and "I'm back". (Also because I play Protoss itroll).

However, I absolutely value consistent practice/laddering. Even though I'm pretty confident in my ability regardless, I feel I am at my peak strength when I've been running on the Treadmill otherwise known as the Korean Ladder. Execution is everything for Protoss.

After not working or playing for almost 6 years? I'm back working part time and balancing everything ... squeezing some time here and there for sc2 :P
Hubby doesn't play as much as I do. The beginning was tough because he didn't truly understand how much it meant to me but he is understanding mostly (As long as the kids dun irritate him too much to put in him a bad mood).
My kids both know about sc2 - Boy (5 years old) has always supported terrans (Must make more tanks!); Girl (8 years old) wants to know how to play sc2 when she is old enough (in her opinion, that means 2 years later).

I work full time, and recently got married. She plays too sometimes :-)

I probably play 5-10 games per week. I'm more limited by mental energy than time, after an intense day at work ling-bane wars aren't the first thing on my mind.

I work full time. been with the misses 2 years and played the whole time. No starcraft on a computer though. I watch tons of VODs though. I would play at city hunter but they don't have the full version there.

There is a bit of tension there because she doesn't understand it.

I bet city hunter do have sc2 full version and you just suck at life. They definitely have it at burwood I think and Ch

I work full time as well as pulling in a bit of overtime but my fortnightly roster generally consists of 9x 8.5 hour days where my days off do not consist of sc2 and aren't always on the weekend. My fiancé (together 5 years) understands I love the game and supports me so recently she has granted me permission to play Tuesday and Thursday night once the kids are in bed (2yr old, 9 months).

Before being able to play Tuesdays and Thursdays the only time I could play sc2 at home was for clan wars and online tournaments so I was only playin on my one hour lunch breaks at work. I never have time for streams or Vods because of the family so I still have never watched the gsl but my fiancé will support me at tournaments in Sydney after the 3.5 hour drive from Canberra even if I constantly lose.

Again she understands that I enjoy the game and because I do she wants to understand it herself so I need to explain what I'm doing and why if she decides to watch me play.

Man, reading this is depressing if it's what's in store for me after I finish uni. During semester I play at least 2 hours/day. Now that I'm working all holidays, I only play on my days off and weekends TT, tops 10h/week. I'm just too tired to play more than two or three games after I get home.

Married mortgage and working in the navy, so regulary dissapearing for long lengths of time mean I never get to play as much as I like it would love to. It also doesn't help that you do just want to try those new shiny games.

I work full time, gym 3 days a week (previously 5) and play hihgly competitive CS:GO.
Currently live with my GF (living together for 2 years, been together for 5)

I manage 30-40 hours a fortnight of CS:GO and still have the ability to go out with my friends on weekends and I also have numerous business meetings/trips to deal with.

You have to find the time!

Currently work full time, look after 2 kids on my Sunday/Monday "days off" and still somehow manage to have the Weekly BSG run each and every Saturday night.
My wife has always enjoyed having me leave her alone one night of the week for the BSG but sometimes gets annoyed other times when she thinks I'm ignoring her because I'm trying to macro when she gets home

I work full time 36 years old, run my own business married with two kids (girls 6 and 3), never played BW but always a gamer I discovered SC2 and love it ! I am a very competitive person and will always play from now on when I can. I play whenever I can while my wife watches TV or something 2-3 nights a week for a couple of hours, occasionally I pull a late one or sneak a few hours in during the middle of the day if I am at home. I have EU / SEA and TW clients but never play enough I am ok but need practice and coaching if I ever want to get better I float between high bronze and silver depending on how much I play.

I subscribe to the GSL and watch vods at work sometime when I should be working. My wife is from Sweden so I went to Dream hack summer last year when we were back in Sweden and felt old but loved it !!! My oldest daughter can play Terran and build all the structures and make some units with direction. My wife knows I play but has no Idea why or what I enjoy about it.

Oh and yesterday I got a HOTS beta key !!!

There is always time !! and if necessary sleep less !!
