Spend or Die Macro Trainer

Hi All,

I have created a map based off a Fusion Slugs training session activity.

It's called Spend or Die, and it's aim is to teach players to spend their resources or they lose the game.

Players choose a difficulty at the beginning of the game allowing them the following resource limits:

Gold - 1750
Platinum - 1500
Diamond - 1250
Master - 1000

Note: These limits are Minerals + Gas combined.

once a player hits 200/200 supply, the resource limit is removed.

Currently the only map available is Daybreak LE

Known issues:
  • If a player clicks ok, without choosing a difficulty their resource limit will only be 200.
  • Game starts almost instantly after both players choose a difficulty ( Be ready once you hit ok! )
  • Observers don't have a supply counter until they click on a players units/structures.

Intended new features:
  • Goal window - So players/observers can see what the goals are mid game
  • Count down once both players hit OK on difficulty dialog

the macro or die on NA was fun, if you went over the resource cap, you'll begin to get nuked. If you go under again, it'll stop.

Things like this can be good but generally not great. A zerg saving for Muta/broods often has a huge bank, the same as a toss waiting for tech/a warp-in round. We can't just que 3049850345 units in a barracks like a certain other race. Nice concept though

yeah, you will want to play it 2 player. the AI won't play it properly.

it's best use will be for Clan training sessions / partners i think.

Just played a game on this map. While a good idea for practise It's kind of unsatisfying when you win because your opponent didn't spend his money. Is it possible to make the game restart without reloading the map like peepmode does?

i'm sure BenAD will have us going through it again one training night.

i think it works best for clan training nights, it's unforgiving so we can cycle through players quickly...

i've been looking at how to make it more like peepmode, but that's way more advanced than my noob editor skills.

Awesome stuff Dele

As he mentions, this was a quick training idea I thought up for the slugs and while as some people have already mentioned, the concept itself isnt always valid (at times you need to save resources for big tech switch etc), the whole point was to make them focused on spending and learning the production building to base ratio and doing it while being under pressure from an opponent.

I hope it helps some people and Im definitely keen to refine the idea further

I haven't played the actual map yet, but I feel that the concept is the same as the original Fusion Slug training night. While at higher levels - Diamond/ masters/ grandmasters this map may not have such a huge effect it is definitely good for helping lower level players to practice their macro while doing a timing attack, or a 2-3 base play, or holding off some variety of cheese. With practice this can definitely see a lot of players up to, and past the 10 minute mark.

In the mid-late game it may be necessary to bank money to do a tech switch, but the overall benefits of this practice to the regular ladder is very evident after a couple of weeks of practice. I encourage all players to try this practice, it yields a very high level of benefit very quickly. Good luck and have fun.
