Featured streams feedback

Hello sc2sea friends.

Just wanting feedback in regards to how we as a community choose our featured streams.

I know this isnt a big deal, but my proposed change is that featured streams must be SEA Residents. Should be active and produce good quality stream at a reasonably high skill level. High amount of OSC points is a good indicator of skill and/or community involvement. Additionally i feel being featured is an acknowledgement of contributions to the community. For example, maynarde isnt a high level competitive player but his stream is good quality and he has contributed so much to the community that he should be acknowledge for his efforts.

I know being featured on sc2sea doesnt really mean much. But i think these changes would be positive.

Please post your thoughts, suggestions and feedback.

Current featured eligibility:

- Represented SEA (can be in a casting capability) and placed highly at a major international LAN event, eg WCS.
- Top 40 in the OSC World Rankings (highly active)

Not eligible
-Entertainers/popular streamers. (They get their viewers largely from TL anyway.)
-Won or placed highly in a small local LAN

-

My thoughts have been reward those who play in our tournaments/represent our region.
If they don't play participate, why feature on sc2sea anyway?

Why limit it to just those that participate in the tournaments. Why not have both?

Those that do (majority) and those that don't (few)?

Well why feature those who don't play/post?

I think it's in a decent spot atm, I see players being removed who don't meet the eligibility criteria a bit, but as someone who's in a spot where I receive a place in the "featured" part.. I just don't feel deserving at all. :/

The only thing I disagree with;

Maybe cutting this down to people who've achieved top 32 at some mid-late point of the season?
Otherwise I don't think it's in too bad of a spot.

As with a start of a new season, initial seeding and scalp points are based off the previous year until we have a few weeks of tournaments under our belt to base new rankings off. So if someone outside of the top 40 in 2015, wins/places in an early 2016 tournament, they will not be featured straight away.

Maynarde has always been featured. Done high level casting online and offline for years! IEMs', Blizzon, etc.

deth has only recently come back to sc2sea, and currently doesn't meet any existing criteria. No doubt his streams are educational and entertaining. There are quite a few GM level streams not featured. Other members have been involved in more ways for longer, and put in more effort, and should be rewarded accordingly. Just my opinion, and trying to execute a fair and unbiased system (I'm personally a massive deth fan.)

I tend to agree with this but also suggest SEA residence as criteria.

I just mentioned in chat box but felt it poignant to post here.
Half of the non-sea featured streamers by osc points are koreans that got their points playing a korean tournament not involved with our scene at all (leifeng cups). And the other half just sign up to our tournaments because ez money not because they want to support our scene. There are a few exceptions, pilipili is involved and tweets and interacts with our community. As does operator etc.

I just want it to be a reward for doing something within our community and not just taking tournament ez money.

I'd argue that some of those koreans are just as active if not more than some SEA players on here lately, certainly in terms of posts and participation, but i do understand the desire to feature our local heroes and friends above them, or other players. Having players like Spear and Arthur involved has added more diversity to our events, and allowed quite a few $ bounties to be collected.

If another mod wants to step up, i'll stand down from the role of stream admin at seasons end. Maybe for the best anyway.

People vastly overrate how many points Leifeng gives out. It is the chinese OSC pathway, and up to them if they want it open, as would it be up to Philospher, or a SEA admin how they determine eligibility. The main point of conern should be ByuN + Solar are just so strong, between them they win a lot. Unusual for Korea/Open events. We have that issue here with most big things won by Petraeus, iaguz or PiG, but we are a smaller community, and people don't complain about SEA stuff, and overlook advantages given to them.
