Hi guys (and girls )

Grandmaster EU Terran from Ukraine here,

Im moving to Australia soon (Sydney), and i'd like to ask some questions

1) What servers are OK for playing?
2) Is it possible to play EU? It will be a delay, but is it possible to play some matches?
I should make decision about signing a contract with a eu team soon, and if it is completely impossible ill just not sign
I should also decide about participating in some russian SCII online competitions soon, before moving, i think i should not participate there at all if it is impossible from SEA
3) What competitions does SEA have and what about SEA community?

I was playing some games on SEA server from EU btw, no delay at all! better then on US and not so much difference with EU lol

now down to the answers

From Sea KR SEA and NA are about the same Ping wise. KR is best for Laddering of course as its the hardest. I know some who can play to EU but its pretty average ping on Australian Internet being so Dodgy.
It is possible to play on EU but again Ping can be pretty bad.
There are a Few ( Pro ) teams that id recommend but first show you mean business and that those teams need you on their Roster, Exile.5 Frenetic Array and Silicon Sports all either have good players or good management ( Side note if you want a clan for Clan Wars and what not i am putting together a M/ GM level roster for my Clan Dominion Gaming TV (please note casual compared to Pros))

Sea has a large range of Tournaments and Competitions going on The over arching Tourney that is the big one is the Oceanic Starcraft 2 Championship , There are many Small Competitions that give points towards the OSC. Such as the Masters Cup and Friday Fun Night.
The Australian Cyber League has a Pro circuit for a few games but Starcraft being one of the main two.
These are a series of Lans that go to Brisbane Sydney and Melbourne each year. ( location can Vary)
This is where you will meet the Best of SEA.

Overall i love the SEA community and i feel its probably one of if not the most close knit community's for SC2 , There are many Passionate people here and other who want to make it all the way to become a pro like PiG , mOOnGLaDe , Iaguz , Petraeus.

only sometimes true. It's incredibly dependant on which ISP you go with. Some ISPs get you 400+ ping to SEA server from Australia because of the poor routing. There are differences to Korea too. Only minor differences to NA (most seem to get around the 200 mark).

Telstra cable or iiNet if that is too expensive are generally considered the best options for getting decent ping to most servers. I can try pinging EU with Telstra from my work connection later, but that doesn't mean the connection will be great (I get ~200-250 to KR from home, but it can spike pretty badly and is just generally not very smooth) I don't really know anyone who plays EU from Sydney to know if you'll ever get a decent ping, let alone a decent experience trying to play.

As for getting the best ping ISP is pretty important I echo Erasmus sentiments on that one iiNet is pretty good and affordable. Otherwise just pick somewhere nice and close to an exchange.

Hello matey, Welcome to SEA!

For EU to SEA ping and Australia to EU Ping, keep in mind that the SEA servers are located in Singapore, so ping from EU would be better than Australia to Europe. It's also very dependant on the ISP that you use.

For the most part, EU Ping is pretty high for Australians - especially if you are used to good ping from Ukraine to Europe Server (which I believe is somewhere north? like

SEA Competitive scene is reasonably active with Tournaments online weekly and live tournaments through out the year.
