With regards to the changes to how the promotion system works is it possible to promote to masters league mid season from diamond?

As we know the masters league attributes to the top 2% (roughly, I'm not so sure now due to the size of the SEA server) amount of players of the server. This sets a certain limit on the amount of people that can achieve this league in correspondence to the population of the server. Now that it is impossible to be demoted from any league mid season (with the exception of Grandmasters) this means that the certain percentile of players which achieved masters league are unable to lose their spots due to inactivity or decrease in skill level.

This negatively hinders players in the league directly below (diamond) that are trying for promotion. In my experiences I have been playing my majority of games against other highly ranked diamond players on the server who's skill level is on par or even surpassing the masters league players of the server.

In turn this may also make the grandmaster league stagnant (as it already is this season - 13 players in the league as of this writing) as high ranking diamonds/ex-masters/gm players are unable to bridge the gap between Diamond and grandmaster (being the masters league) It may also be misleading as to the skill level of a player which can play a large role in determining the outcome of a clan war that is meant to be suited to players at a GPD level. This could possibly be a concern in the upcoming 'ex-masters' tournament that is coming up'

I lost my spot in the Grandmasters league due to off racing and doing fun strategies that I enjoyed, even if it meant I lost frequently. I'm not complaining about being in a lower league than I feel my skill level caters to, as I was legitimately diamond at one stage not very long ago, but I feel this issue raises a concern for the community.

I know this isn't an issue that may specifically relate to the SEA server, but I brought up SEA as I feel it may be related to the 'SEA is dead' talk going around. I know that the server is very healthy in at least the platinum and Diamond range, but the Masters - and Grandmasters - leagues are definitely lacking.

So is this actually a legitimate case as I feel it is or is masters league still very achievable even though current masters players cannot be demoted mid season?

i think the number of GMs in SEA reflects waning interest in the game as a whole. and its quite unlikely the numbers can increase any more.

there was a time when i was pretty crazy over the game. some days i would spend 3-5 hours non-stop.
these days, my friends have stopped sc2, most went over to play dota2 instead.
leagues used to matter so much, but i only hit master just once or twice in SEA and NA, and these days, it doesn't matter at all whether i'm bronze or brass.
i logon occasionally to play, say once a month or so, but just the arcade customs.

the number of sc2 games also have dropped considerably on battlenet, and this is just barely 6 months from the HOTS release.

sc2 is a fantastic, well balanced game, but i guess it just doesn't have the attraction for the mass population like LOL or dota2.

lousy players can be made to believe they are great players on dota/LOL with a couple of wins simple because of the nature of hero vs hero counters. it doesn't happen in sc2.

It attributes to the top 2% of the active population laddering. It doesn't mean one 2% of the population reaches then it stops there. If suddenly half of them stops laddering, then more people can become . But as we know, usually the inactive population belongs to the people below because of #dedication or whatever you call it, so the top 2% active population becomes even harder to achieve. It's just hard to get a good enough win streak on SEA to make your moving average MMR high enough to be promoted to . If it was some Korean pro he definitely can still be promoted mid-season or even end-season just before the lock.

My EU was demoted to Diamond at the start of the season from inactivity. Within a few games, it was back in masters again.

Haha SEA is a completely different beast. Start of the season seems the only time you have a shot at GM/M, late season its just diamonds playing actively and the higher tiers rarely playing. Getting in mid to late you gotta be winning heaps

SEA server is kinda a smurf ground and testing ground... too bad i was trying to seriously ladder on SEA last season.. well.. not anymore!..

on other notes, consistency is key in sc2.. trying out cool builds and creative stuff like CatZ is fun.. but maybe you should do that on SEA and play seriously on other servers.. just a thought..
