FTL stands for Faster Than Light, it's often used in scifi TV shows and movies to describe the light speed warp drives they have.
pinealan - it's nothing like SC2 so I guess if you really like that then you may not like this type of game, I really enjoy it, but it obviously won't be everyones cup of tea.
It's a good game and can be fun for a little bit, for me however I stopped playing it after a few run throughs because the game is based too much on luck. If you don't happen to find a lot of random events which result in weapons or augments you will be not be able to keep up against the enemy and will just die. Also the random/luck nature of the game means you can't play it how ever you want.
The fun is in trying to survive using what you find... you can't go in to the game with a build in mind, you have to upgrade/purchase thing to complement the freebies you get. I've played 35 hours and I'm still enjoying it.
finished it three times. Take for frigging ever to find the unlockable ships. So I just hacked them open (always found grinding to be completely counter to the idea of enjoying the game). But finished it with the kestral, osprey and basilisk. Quite interesting to play the game by beaming people over and kill them them rather than by shooting them. I've never killed the boss unless I had a cloak though. Cloak plus ability to fire during cloack is basically essential unless you happen to get luck in other ways.
For those wondering what type of game it is, it's basically an RPG card game with realtime combat, but u can pause combat to issue commands at any moment. Most fun is when you dont pause and have to do everything by realtime micro though.
Basic strat is to ensure that your weapons are firing to do most affect. Having auto fire on is actually bad in many circumstances. So for the boss I will target shields with missiles/bombs, and then target cloack/drones (first battle or second battle) with energy weapons. I cant remember what the 3 rd battle has as its skill so cant remember what to target.
Example of optimising firing rates is to have energy weapons only fire when the shields are down so they can damage the hull. Fire ion weapons before other energy weapons, because it will always do some hinky shit to the shileds, then you can quickly change the focus of the other eneergy weapons to take out other targets. Having a beam weapon is pretty good cos you can damage multiple systems at once, but unless you can consistantly keep their shields down, a beam weapon will generally make u weaker because its a weapon slot that isnt doing anything.

On the bose target the inner left weapon with all your damage, it's the strongest, and then slowly kill the rest of the weapons, you can kill shields but the weapon is really strong.

I find the triple missle launcher to be more annoying because of the fact that they go through shields. Teleport crew, fire bomb or breech bomb to take it out. The teleporting Ion bomb is also a brilliant weapon against the final boss, targetting the drone control + shields. I beat him with the Torus (Engi Crusier) because Ion weapons are OP.
People apparently have trouble with the last boss stage but I found the second part more annoying because drones op (that and I wasn't using cloak effectively).
Freaking love this game, I'm probably gonna go play some now.
I give it an 8.5 out of 10. I have played it quite a bit, like around 60 hours, and only owned it for 2 weeks or so.....and I'm not 16....so that's saying a lot...haha
I beat the final boss twice out of three times T_T
I was using the torus and had the glaive beam, anti-ship laser, ion cannon, max crew, max shields, anti-ship drones I & II, and max cloaking.
I feel like the game could have more of a feeling of progress. If you lose you just go back to square one again.
