With the first week of the mGG Summer Swiss completed yesterday a weekly review of the previous weeks best games, general results and next week's matchups will be starting!
Week one saw mGG's ,, players face up against our players as the swiss system attempts to sort the players according to skill. Most of the games were played out with only 3 matches ending up unplayed.
This was a good series to watch. Eventhough Titan won the series 2-0 Nemsis fought all the way. In game one Nemesis went for a big 5 gate pressure build after her 1gate FE. Titan managed to scout it coming and placed 3 bunkers down for an easy hold. Titan followed it up with a strong MMM timing attack before Nemesis had colossus out.
Probe withdrew fromt he tournament giving Stealth the automatic win. This might be a bad thing as he is now grouped with all the GM's and Masters so he will have a tough next round. I look forward to seeing how he performs.
The GM protoss South fought a good series against the platinum benelings. South won 2-1 with benelings putting up a good fight. Both benelings and south look very strong moving into round 2.
A tough series for DrGoose who was up against Muex this round. In game one after standard openings for both players (FFE and Fast 3 hatch) on daybreak Muex went for double Immortal drops. Goose was caught slightly offgaurd resulting in Muex sniping the lair in Goose's main.
Muex followed this up with a strong 3 base colossus/blink stalker timing just as Goose was getting out broodlords but the timing was slightly off and Goose held the push without to much damage. Sadly as Goose went to counter attack the broodlords got seperated from the main army and flew right over Muex's blink stalkers.
Zeratul won this series 2-0 in a convincing display of skill against CwnAnnwn. In game one CwnAnnwn went for a proxy 2 gate zealot rush, hoping to catch Zeratul off guard. Zeratul had none of it and managed hold the game for a win.
Krnx won this series 2-0 in a strong fashion. Game one saw Krnx go for a strong 3 base play against Sneaks 2 base. Sneak had a small window to attack but was thwarted with sone nice army splitting preventing Sneak's drop into the main of Krnx. Once the three base was up, Krnx hit a 3 base timing before sneak had the economy to recover.
Liquid faced up against Hazard in this series with Liquid taking the set in the end 2-0. Game two was a tad crazy as Hazard attempted a proxy gateway which was scouted by Liquid. In a sign of resignation Hazard proceeded to build 3 Nexuses in his main
mGGAlpha has always had issues with his PvP whereas Zeratul's PvP reamains one of his strongest matchups. Also Zertaul is heading into week 2 with a PvP win under his belt. Despite this I have to give the series to Alpha in the end.
Both players go into week two with a win in TvP and both are relatively closely matched in skill. It will be interesting to see if Liquid decides to stick with the CC first macro heavy style he used against Hazard or if he switches it up. I give the series to South in a very close series.
This should also be a good series with two good terrans facing up against each other in round 2. Fender is the favourite heading into this, if only due being a master league player. However Stealth cannot be counted out. It will be a difficult series but if he preapres well and goes into the series confident he could take it.
