As per this thread, I'm pleased to announce that we'll be hosting our (single) Online Round for ACL Melbourne on Saturday, June 30th. The event will start at midday AEST, and players will need to join channel ACLPro.The format will be double elimination, best of three. If there are an exceeding number of registrations, we'll run groups to determine the top 8, and then run double elimination from there.

So for those of you who missed the soft announcement, these are the changes for ACL Melbourne:

1) If you register for the online round, you cannot participate in a regional event (and vice versa). You can participate in as many regionals as you like, however.

2) The top 8 invites to ACL Melbourne will have the privilege of selecting their own groups via a live streamed show (date TBA). The other 8 will be automatically allocated.

3) Essentially coming top 3 in a Regional or Online event pretty much guarantees you an invite to ACL Melbourne. Keep in mind that only 8 people showed up to the Sydney regionals, so it looks like a lot of people are betting on the Online Round. Be prepared for an extremely stacked bracket.

I also wanted to add something else, but I felt it doesn't really belong in the news. 8 people showing up for the Sydney regionals (with cash and a WCS seed on the line) was extremely disappointing. I'm hoping we see more support in the other states, because as you know ACL isn't free to operate and the money generated at these regional events goes directly into the prize pool. If players want the scene to grow, you'll need to put in a little more effort.

I understand that a lot of people are stuck with uni exams at the moment though... although the huge number of people online playing Diablo 3 over the weekend would suggest otherwise.

Honestly (and I know it's not your fault) $30 is at the steep end for the more casual guys who go along with no real intention of doing well, just for the social side of it.

I was even undecided whether it was worth it for that much more than a normal Sydney lan before I realised the dates meant I was interstate...

I can't really say whether this is what kept the turnout so low (the last CH lan was smaller than the previous ones too... it could just be that sc2 is losing it's attraction to the casual crowd).

I think Diablo 3 was the biggest factor in this case, but I agree the cost can't be ignored. There are a lot of people who are just in hiatus at the moment.

I like these changes - and yeah i like the more money to participate thing too, helps out with ACL and it helps reduce no-shows (and a lot of no-shows makes everything look so lack-luster)

Hell - even I'm going to play at ACLMelb Regionals to help out the scene.

I think the cost wasn't as big a problem as was the concern that people were ruling themselves out of the online qualifier by playing in the LAN event, so people a) waited ages to see who would commit and then b) opted not to play once a couple of big names signed up.

I'd say so, problem with news posts are that you should make them relevant to the event that will happen within the week, not the month or so beforehand.

1 weeks' notice for tournaments is definitely not a good idea
