Great video! Hopefully the legendaries introduced will solve some of thi problem. I didn't play much diablo 2, what was itemization like there?
It also brings up the interesting point of gold farming vs item farming, since you can always use money to buy the exact best items for you rather then farming items since they are too random. When the auction house fully deflates (prices go down like 100% every day lol) it may become better to farm gold then to farm items.
Another well made video, where he explains the difficulty curve was too steep. In inferno difficulty you get 1-2 shotted anywhere after act 2 and it turns into a massive gear grind
Regarding farming gold vs farming items, it will even out and it will be about as productive either way time wise.
If farming gold gets you geared quicker than farming items and selling them on AH, less people will be farming items, which means via supply & demand, prices of those items will begin to rise again thus making the gold farming method worse and the item farming method. Vice versa for if too many people are just item farming instead of gold farming.
In d2 LoD, rune words and uniques made up 90% of the best items you could get in the game, because they had very very little random about them (only stats varied, for example 25%-50% magic find on gloves or something for example), iirc there were no completely '+2 random stats' on any of the top top uniques/runewords in the game.
