2v2 Zerg & Zerg basic strategy

me and my buddy have been playing some 2v2, and we both normally play as zerg (which i realise isnt the best match up). anyway, most of the time we get okay map control, denying expansions etc, our problem is that out of their starting and sometimes also their natural base, they will get a decent army out which ends up winning the game, despite us starving them out for a while... so my question is how should we be preventing this? should we sacrifice some map control to get a larger army (less droning on expansions, more into units) or what?

What unit types are your enemies getting?
eg. terrans - mass tank + marine
zerg - roaches
prtoss - stalker + collosus
Depending on what units your opponents are getting u can determine whether to drone or build an army.
If they aim for lower tech units then u shouldnt risk droning to much, (3base zerg vs 2 base X). By all means do take your 3rd base but dont drone until u die, stop at a good number and produced units.

If they aim for higher tech (collosus + thors) you should be able to get broods / ultras / infestors out.
Just my 2cents

edit; you can also do a combination as both of you are zerg, 1 player can go muta (harras) the other can go mass roach or higher tech units.
Try using Broods (player 1) and ultras (player 2) if you get that far.

the weakness of ZZ is poor late game death ball compared to the other races. don't let the game get a maxed vs maxed situation on even terms.

as long as you have a plan for each of the 9 matchups and reasonable co ordination with your ally (ie, don't both go mutas, engage at the same time, etc) you should do ok.

i would recommend at least one of you 10 pools to be safe against early pressure, but it doesn't sound like you're having too much trouble handling early pressure anyway
