What to do when you feel like you have hit a Skill Barrier

Pretty much guys the name says it all.

I am at a point now where i am finiding it hard to improve..
I know there are so many issues with my play as i am only high gold.
But what do you do when you feel like you have hit a barrier.

Constructive practice rather than mindless mass-game practice.

I actually said this to the TA boys yesterday, pretty much the advice they gave me. Can't just mindlessly play (although I'm GM, so it's a bit different), you have to actually focus on what you need to improve on and actually work on improving that particular aspect. I figure at gold level a big thing would be mechanics/speed (?) Try playing quicker, or focusing less on pointless things such as watching engagements when theres no need to micro and perhaps try another warp in, that way you're constantly doing something?

Goodluck

Focus on one aspect of your game, instead of trying to improve as a whole game by game.

Like for zerg, instead of trying to learn everything the pros do in one game, i focus on injects.Once that is achieved to a acceptable level, i go towards spreading creep. ETC

To quote LiquidTyler: "The only way to improve at a steady rate is to push yourself beyond your limit by identifying and eliminating your weaknesses, and by improving your multitasking so that you can do more all at once."

To do this, you must 1. find someone who you almost never beat and 2. practice with them a lot until you feel as if you're doing better and then finally 3. see if your results/win rate are improving - atleast in the particular area that you're focusing on.

That's my advice atleast. Hope it helps.

well i must say i agree and know how you feel my theory is there are a few things i think you could do:
the first being laddering and analysing why your losing
secondly (helps if you in a clan for this) play customs of matchups your weak with and have other people observe and at the end of the game give hints, or even better while in game be on teamspeak, vent, skype or something of the likes and they can help you iron out the kinks in your play.

I tell my friend that I'm useless and can't improve anymore, then she tells me I can achieve anything I want to.

Love and support goes a long way

I take a different approach for a while. Improving doesn't mean need to play an actual game.

Some days where I feel i'm tilting, I take a full day to watch replays, or VODs, or read TL SC2 strategy section to see what's new, or if there's something I'm missing out on.

As many of mentioned, you could also work on something very specific for a few days. Back in my Gold days, I set myself a quota of 100 games playing against AI just to perfect Queen injects (I play zerg). 100 games, didn't make my injects perfect, but definitely improved my game taking me one step forward.

Don't give up~! SC2 is a huge world to explore, take it slowly~ GLHF!!

I'm going through a bipolar phase of this at the high diamond point. Some days I'm feeling like I'm making a heap of progress and things are lining up for me, the next day I'll have a 5-10 game losing streak and not be able to make heads or tails of why.

I think Izq's suggestion is pretty solid though, focus on a specific mechanic where you know you have room for improvement. Maybe also try to analyse/submit a replay of your most hated match-up/strat to face and see if either you or others can point out where a gap in your play is happening.
