Just keen to know how everyone fares on the two different servers? Im fairly bad at starcraft and Gold 1v1 in SEA but Plat 1v1 on NA, then my highest team on SEA is Platinum but on NA i just got promoted to Masters 3v3.
Its seems a whole lot easier over there if you can put up with all the extra BM, anyone else notice this?
AFAIK Sea leagues are equivelant to one league higher on NA. Gold -> Plat, Plat -> Dia,
Dia -> low master.
It stops once you get to mid master which is about even. Mid GM on SEA is equivelant to high masters on NA though.
This is based off personal experience as I laddered through both around about the same time and hearing other people say similiar things.
Personally, I see the first threshold in player development as when you are able to get the hang of doing what you should be doing - keeping money low, using hotkeys, not getting supply capped, constant workers and units making, etc. It's not that you do it perfectly or even well at all, but you start to think of the game, the right way. On SEA, this happens in bronze, and is the difference between low bronze and high bronze. On NA, I think it only happens about the time you get promoted to silver, or even after. This gap in skill thresholds is explained easily, as obviously its higher population means the bottom 20% on NA are further away from average skill than SEA, while 'average' is probably pretty similar.
I find that in NA, people play a more basic game - fundamentals like macro are similar (that gap where a threshold is reached gets smaller the higher you get), whereas on SEA people in lower leagues are more competition focused - which means that they work more on refining things that NA players only do in later leagues
e.g. as a gold league Terran, if I open banshees on SEA, it gets scouted and will be dealt with somewhat effectively - a scan may be saved, turrets will be waiting, marines are on perimeter defense duty etc. On NA, I will do a lot more damage.
I don't ladder much on NA (I use it for warmups very occasionally) and I think it would be fair to say that as I'm nearing promotion to plat on SEA, I would be high plat and perhaps nearing promotion to diamond on NA.
Personally it seems to me that both SEA and NA are roughly equal in terms of skill. I generally spend most of my time on NA though (easier to find matches), but I do agree that NA overall is more BM than SEA.
10x the amount of good players, so also 10x the amount of bad players.
Yeah, I think this is spot on. It seems like the best players on AM are better than the best players on SEA, but the worst players on SEA are probably a little better than the worst players on AM.
MMR usually gets you opponents of the same level. I've noticed on NA the matchups are really extreme though, Like i'll either play someone really bad or really gosu, but that might be timezone related where im playing sleep deprived nerds sometimes My record for w/l and points are pretty much the same between servers so grats to blizzard there.
Also I can't stand to play on NA for too long because every second game I get bm'd super hard...
Doesn't make me angry, just depressed why people so angry on NA?
yeah I always thought in films where they give wedgies to the nerds and beat them up was exaggerated but with the bitter, sad and angry attitudes coming out of alot of NA sc2 players i almost believe it :P
Either they are passing on the abuse they recieved in their culture, or they genuinely think its funny to abuse people over the internet >.<
I'm a Gold League player on SEA, NA and KR.. The Korean Gold League feels as if i'm playing diamond players or something. I should be demoted to silver I would say.
Well when i was top 8 bronze on SEA i got into gold on NA. go figure, that having been said. i am now a plat zerg and i am a gold zerg on KR. go figure.

I found i wasn't ready for the amount of aggression they are able to put on you... all the time. lol. but that having been said there are a lot of one trick ponys who have mastered one build or timing push :/
The BM thing is so true.. Imo they should create an achievment for 'streaks of not getting BM'ed' starting from 3 games, 5 games then 10.. I wouldn't get any of them
I beat a toss and marine and marauders are 'free'
I beat a zerg and well.. 3-3 marines are apparently OP against 0-0 zerglings
I beat a terran and well.. Terran is OP apparently with 100% w/l in TvT
