So watching TLO's stream one of the songs reminded me of this
That let me on a journey through youtube's archives of all the old school games I played and loved as a young little wipper snapper
So I thought why not make a thread where we can share a song that gets those nostalgia muscles twitching and reminisce on times of yore when gaming was simpler
Even though there are plenty of people on this forum that are probably too young to feel this kind of thing
To keep from exploding the thread lets say you have to pick the 2 most prominent ones and try to share a story or two
this one probably needs little introduction other than to say TEST UR MIGHT
I was so good at this game - even the next two best among my friends couldn't beat me with max handicap, their choice of weapons and map. (if only there was pro goldeneye scene:P) Also the first twinkling of my interest in esports - though i didn't know it at the time. I set up and ran a goldeneye tournament in highschool to raise money for charity
I know someone will post ocarina of time and bw music
Meatex, few things make me nostalgic. But one of them is definitely old school video game music. I'll probably post in this thread a few times... And haven't we ALL been ninja's to the Mortal Kombat movie's theme song? I would have to say game music nostalgia for me (I'm old btw) goes back to...
HAHA F*CK OCARINA this is where it started for me. I got this game when I was 7 years old or something, and played it over and over. The original Zelda was stupid hard. There were no maps and you had to somehow KNOW how to find where the levels were and draw your own map on a piece of paper. There is one area that can only be found by walking through a forest that never ends in the appropriate directions and as far as I know you pretty much have to trial and error the damned thing. I had a few temper tantys, but the day I finished this game was one of the happiest.
Super metroid is a game that I have played and sped run many many times as a kid. It's basically side scrolling Zelda. You kill bosses to gain abilities and powers in order to access other areas. Used to be all like ARGH when I saw a high ledge knowing something juicy was up there but couldn't reach it, and had to come back to that high ledge 20 min later after killing a boss. And this game had creepy bosses / boss music, I like creepy things.
The following music is slightly more modern. Less 8-bit but so well composed and encompassing gaming experiences so epic they can only be described with music, and still uber nostalgic for me and probably a few of you. In fact I'm tempted to link the orchestral version of them instead of the originals. In fact I will.
Please listen all the way through. These songs are SO good.
Final battle of Final Fantasy 7. My favourite Final Fantasy next to 6 and 8. Indescribable how amazing this song is and how good it feels to be fighting the end boss of this game while this song is pumping. Sigh at all the kids that named their in game characters Sephiroth after this game came out though.
Metal Gear OMG WTFFF this theme is in Metal Gear 2 and 3, but for me it encompasses the whole series in terms of epicness and emotion. This song is easily one of the most amazing tracks in video game history. I listened to this youtube video, and all the memories came rushing back and I was almost overwhelmed. The final movement of the piece (from about 2:40 onwards) gives me chills and makes me misty eyed. Every. Single. Time. Do yourselves a favour and listen to this one.
SC:BW Terran music is actually amazing. ROCK THAT VIOLIN SON.(youtube search this or your doing yourself a disservice! I cannot provide it as im at work ;( )

Yes, I do believe we will . But to change the tone, the first game I played thats music sent chills down my spine was Lufia II, specifically these two songs:
While I am an avid fan of all things SC, Zelda, metal gear, FF and im kinda suprised no1's posted the original mario, ooo or the mario RPG that had a fun soundtrack, I have to admit the one game I have to mention is by far my favourite game of all time......
Fallout 2
Fark Fallout 3 and the molested first/third person unwitty disgusting pile of stinking crap that they branded fallout and while I did love fallout 1...... This starting song just stuck with me, I can say word for word the title and the song and just love it.....
and the other game that always stuck with me was....
Kings Quest (any but specifically) 5
My brother and I played this tirelessly for hours on end. By far the best adventure games ever created. and the opening Sierra flourish was spectacular. Kings Quest 6 also deserves a mention because it was the last true KQ in my mind and I also loved it.
sorry I'll stop now....you went and got me all nostalgic!!
I actually tend to associate my memories of games with music I was listening to at the time and as a kid I didnt really get my choice of music. So I have this wierd association of certain games to my mothers music. For example when ever I hear anything by DrHook I remember a game called Peppers adventures in time.........
My personal faves come primarily from FFVII and Ocarina of Time. An insanely high amount of great tracks from all of Final Fantasy series (Nobuo Uematsu) and LoZ.
I'm relatively young compared to some of you fellas, so a lot of my younger games are nothing compared to what you're listing, but from my childhood these bring nothing but pure memories.
Warcraft 2 (was a HUGE fan of Warcraft 2, still got my CD on my shelf)
Stronghold, the first game that revolutionised the build-a-damn-castle-and-frickin-defend-that-shiz. Such a shame SH3 apparently is complete fail and riddled with bugs. After all the fixes I'll probably get into it.
