Interviews
Now that all of the dust has settled in Sydney, I took the time to catch up with our qualifying participants and gauge their feelings for the WCG National Finals.
Dox: Firstly, congratulations to each of you on qualifying for the WCG National Finals. How do you feel about your performance at the Sydney Qualifier? mOOnGLaDe: Thank you! I'm very satisfied with the way I played, and I can't wait for the nationals. iaguz: Feels freakin' great. I knew I couldn't beat mOOnGLaDe yet - I need to prepare a better playstyle to play against him. Beating YYJ and MaFia though... I feel super pleased about that. They are very capable of beating me! MaFia: Thank you! I felt I played pretty well overall, not many people were expecting me to do as well as making top 4 so it felt even better I guess.
Dox: Are there any aspects of your play you're going to focus on improving before the Grand Finals on the Gold Coast? mOOnGLaDe: I'm really going to train hard and improve every aspect of my game and iron out any problems and improve my macro and timings. iaguz: Need to work on my TvMG (mOOnGLaDe) matchup!! MaFia: There are alot of things I need to work on, mainly my multitasking and control so I will be practising as much as I can until the Grand Finals!!
Dox: Who was your toughest opponent at the qualifier? mOOnGLaDe: Toughest opponent i faced would either be Mafia or Iaguz, both have really improved a lot lately and they will definitely be players to look out for at the finals. iaguz: YYJ actually. I had to beat him to get a good result and I didn't think I could handle GLaDe, so I was really focused on beating YYJ. MaFia: Well there were a lot of very outstanding players I faced at the event, ie. Benji, Rossi, Light, PiG, YYJ, iaguz and mOOnGLaDe. They all played extremely well and it's hard to seperate them, but iaguz was the toughest that I lost to and Light was the toughest to beat.
Dox: Any outstanding games you would recommend to viewers? mOOnGLaDe: The best of 3 I had against MaFia was pretty crazy (Download Replays) and could have gone either way! iaguz: MaFia game 1 (Download Replay), and YYJ games 2 and 3 (Download Replays). I pick MaFia game 1 because it shows how solid defensive expansion securing, solid macro, drops and an overall methodical attitude can prevail against Zergs that focus too heavily on their Mutalisk ball. YYJ game 2 because it shows how to make a comeback in TvT (ie. Defend, prepare expansions, drops & miracle flanks. Maphacks in the brain yo!) YYJ game 3 because with the exception of when I accidentally fed him a few tanks at the start, it was a really solid execution of 1 Rax FE into nice standard play. Was just on top of everything! MaFia: I would recommend game 1 vs Light (Download Replay), game 1 vs iaguz (Download Replay), and game 1 vs Yoon (Download Replay).
Dox: Any comments regarding the event? (ie. Structure, venue, rules, co-ordination, etc) mOOnGLaDe: The event was well run (thanks to the saviour Dox, making it a best of 3 instead of best of 1). Though I wish it didn't start at 3:00PM. That made it run quite late (1:00AM) and I felt destroyed by the end of it. iaguz: It was a bit silly that we had to pick our own map pool, but oh well. The event was well run; players mostly knew what we had to do. Oh, also - ADD LAN BLIZZARD!!!! MaFia: It was my second time at a lan event, so I don't have a whole lot of experience in that kind of environment, but it was pretty unfortunate because at times I know some people had minor comp issues (including Light) and may not have performed at 100%. Tourney structure was good and the organisers did a good job in running the event as smooth as possible.
Dox: Predictions for the other qualifying events around Australia? mOOnGLaDe: From Brisbane I think Azz, Saint, Shuffle and maybe KJH. Melb would be Deth, then I'm not sure - not entirely familiar with the players from Melbourne right now. Adelaide – Edge. WA – Filthy. iaguz: If the prizes are good, expect a certain rampaging Brisbane player to fly in and steal your cash. Other than that, I don’t know. Brisbane is a toss-up between JimDiddy, Azz, Shuffle and GLaDe, and Melbourne is Deth and like..... No-one else... MaFia: Brisbane: Azz/Jimdiddy/sAint/Shuffle. Melbourne: deth and TargA if hes allowed to participate? Adelaide: EdgE/Spider. Perth: Filthy.
Dox: Any final comments/shout-outs? mOOnGLaDe: Shout out to all the people that said hi to me and supported me! Shout out to all the players I met, you were all very cool! And shout out to TLS/RedCarpetGaming for running WCG, putting up prizes and making it a lot more interesting than previous years. WCG had definitely faded hard after 2004, but it feels like it's been reborn with this new company running it! iaguz: Shout out to team aLt and all the people who keep encouraging me to play SC2 better. Thanks to you all! MaFia: Shout-outs to BitterCold and REQtheognis for being my ZvT practise partners to prepare for this event. Also to EdgE and JazBas for all the insight and ZvZ games, I wouldn't have improved if it wasn't for you guys. To all my team mates in nGen, especially Soft and Light for being great players to practise with. And lastly to ZergGirl for supporting and encouraging me along the way. Thank you all so much ^^

Imma quote your answers to you when i knock you out of grand finals, fo real.
Hmmm, weird, sorry! I had like 400 replays which were named "Xel Naga Caverns (14).sc2replay" and "Metalopolis (29).sc2replay" etc, so it took a long time to sort through them all and figure out who was playing who and what round it was. I'm not surprised mistakes were made.
