Would it be possible to receive a certificate saying we won a competition in SEA?
hi, i tried contacting the staff, but didn't get much help.
anyway, i'm thinking about putting together a new PC just to compete in SC2. now, my question was if it'd be possible to receive some kind of certificate or even just a piece of paper saying i won or competed in a tournament on here. i'm not really interested in the money, but something saying i was here and actually competed would be great.
before i spend a lot of money on a new PC i want to make sure.
We currently don't have a system like that but it can easily implemented. I speak on behalf of MSS, I'll let Nirvana speak for SC2SEA and the other community leaders to speak for their own groups.

umm have you ever played a sport outside of esports? all sports give you some kind of trophy when you win a competition.
This isnt sports, its esports. Noone in esports ever recieves a certificate and those that get trophies are those that win significantly larger tournaments (10,000+ Prizepool).

and why can't esports have their own certificate/trophys? it'll definitely be useful in your career be it as a pro-gamer or joining a gaming related company such as razer/steelseries/intel/gom or what have you.

I don't even understand why this is even an argument. Its a shit idea, end of discussion.

A certificate for winning a small scale online gaming tournament is going to be worth jack all for getting a part-time job at a computer store or LAN cafe, let alone pursuing fulltime careers in the gaming industry. The only worth they might have would be personal worth, and I doubt there are many gamers out there interested in receiving a certificate.
Welcome to the site juggernaught, and sorry for the less than warm reception :/
So is what you're thinking of doing is going to a computer store with a certificate to try and get a bit of a discount on your computer? It may well work, I've known people to go into sports stores and discounts because they've won a triathlon, at least they said they did, could all just be BS.
Nice idea with certificates though, maybe not for weekly tournaments but for champions cup or SEA SLs. Just something with an official logo on it to hang on your wall or use in your CV.

lol
no, just a piece of paper. maybe 'certificate' was the wrong word. i just meant something to say i competed. even just a piece of paper would be enough. i just want something real instead of putting something in my sig.
I think it would be easier for sc2sea.com to have a tournament honour roll of the top 3 placings for each tournament. Makes it an easy reference for everyone and certificates are worth nothing. It would also help increase sc2sea.com exposure to the greater community by demonstrating its involvement.
Firstly, it wasn't an argument to begin with. It was just a simple question.
Juggernaut, its more a matter of practicality than anything else. Usually sports prizes are trophies, like the ones in GSL, but since we're scattered over various countries, that's not feasible. When you mentioned certificates, that is doable and something we can look into for the future. I think its worth a look into if people actually would appreciate this form of achievement.
I'm sure this discussion is read by many of our tournament organizers, and thou they might not take it seriously for now, I believe it is a direction I will take Mothership Studios in. I had not considered this till now so thank you for the suggestion.
Achievement comes in many forms to different people. I myself have kept all my medals and trophies I won in school days cause they do mean something to me, even thou I know the medal costs like $5 to make. Most athletes would compete just for glory itself (look at our smaller SEA tournaments), and a physical momento of that carries a certain amount of weight to some people.
