Smiley: Cool It's Time to Reload: A look back at Season 1.

Well it’s finally happened, the first season of competitive SC2 has ended, and we’ve moved into season 2, which is shaping up to be even better than the last one!

I wanted to take this opportunity to quickly look back at some of the significant foreign tournament results of the first Season, and the players who stole our hearts.

+++ SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 FOLLOW+++

August 2010: IEM Cologne 2010 ($15,000 Prize Pool)

Winner: mouzMorroW (Playing as Terran)

Runner-up: EGIdrA

An Amazing tourney with some seriously heavy hitters. Players like Artosis, TheLittleOne, and Huk made for an interesting and hard fought comp, which culminated in MorroW’s 3 – 1 victory over IdrA.

August 2010: MLG Raleigh ($7,000 Prize Pool)

Winner: HuK

Runner-up: KIWIKaKI

Part of the MLG pro circuit.

October 2010: IEM Vs American Championship ($7,000 Prize pool)

Winner: Fenix

Runner-up: QXC

Pitting the very best the States have got in an epic struggle to reach the IEM World Championships in 2011. Players like HuK, Drewbie, and KIWIKaKI made for an exciting although small tournament.

October 2010: MGL D.C ($12, 400 Prize Pool)

Winner: IdrA

Runner-up: SeleCT

Part of the MLG Pro circuit.

October 2010: MLG Dallas ($17,500 Prize Pool)

Runner-up: TT1

Part of the MLG Pro circuit.

October 2010: DreamHack Winter 2010 ($25,000 Prize Pool)

Winner: Naama

Runner-up: MaNa

The Worlds largest LAN. DreamHack saw a score of the best players in the world and made for some very interesting games. Ends with a tongue twisting finals between Naama and MaNa…I feel sorry for the casters of that match…

Janurary 2011: IEM Vs European Championship ($18,000 Prize Pool)

Winner: Sjow

Runner-up: White-Ra

Europe’s Championship, with the best fighting for a spot in the world championships in 2011. Check out games from GoOdy, who is currently tearing up the TSL3.

Janurary 2011: IEM VS South East Asia Championships

Winner: mOOnGLaDe

Runner-up: Loner

Won by the SEA Zerg Superhero mOOnGLaDe, Who is currently in Korea playing in Code A for the GSL.

February 2011: Assembly Winter 2011 ($6,800 Prize Pool)

Winner: Ret

Another big LAN event. With a ZvZ finals none the less. Lots of big names in this tourney, including players from teams TLAF-Liquid, mouz, ROOT, and more!

March 2011: IEM Vs World Championship ($30,000 Prize Pool)

Winner: Ace

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Major_Tournaments

Edit: At nirvana's request I've edited in a section on Major SEA tourney's I could find. If anyone knows of significant results I missed pm me and I'll add them to the post

May 2010: TransTasman SC2 Championships #1 ($175 Prize Pool)

Winner: mOOnGLaDe

Runner-up: TAms

The TransTasman SC2 Championship was a double ellimination tournament hosted by TAdeL for the Australian and New Zealand StarCraft II communities. Initially for fun only, various donators raised the prizepool to a total of AU$175. The first significant tournament for the SEA region.

July 2010: TransTasman Sc2 Championship #2 ($250 Prize Pool)

Winner: Filthy

Runner-up: mOOnGLaDe

The TransTasman SC2 Championship 2 is the follow-up to the TransTasman SC2 Championship tournament hosted by TAdeL for the Australian and New Zealand StarCraft II communities. The second incarnation of the tournament sees an increase in the prizepool - up to AU$250 - and a reshuffled format to maximise participation and reward the best performers of the original tournament.

May 2010: Mar Sara Trials

Winner: mOOnGLaDe

Runner-up: Kamina

The Mar Sara Trials is a tournament hosted by CyberGamer for the Australian and New Zealand StarCraft II communities. The large prizepool of $350 attracted the stiffest competition from the Oceania region to compete in this one-day event. Some interesting trivia is that the top 3 placers in the tournaments are all ex-WarCraft III Australia Team members.

August 2010: City Hunter SC2 Festival ($5000 Prize Pool, including $1k cash and prizes)

Winner: mOOnGLaDe

Runner-up: laguz

City Hunter's StarCraft II Festival ran from the 29th of August to the 19th of September and featured over $5000 worth of prizes including cash, store credit, and sponsor prize packs over 3 competitions.

September 2010: WD PSI STORM 2010 ($5,000 Prize Pool)

Runner-up: OxygeN

CyberGamer hosted the Western Digital PSI STORM 2010 StarCraft II Tournament, with AU$5000 in cash prizes thanks to Western Digital's VelociRaptor hard drives. It is the largest online event for the SEA server to date.

September 2010: SCA Open (Decent prize pool of new toys like, Steelseries Zboards, etc)

Winner: mOOnGLaDe

Runner-up: Kowi

The SCA Open was run by http://www.StarCraftAus.com a site aiming to bring more competitions to Australia and New Zealand and foster a friendly and competitive community.

THE PLAYERS:

I obviously don’t speak for everyone, but I think that these players in particular, deserve a special mention for their incredible efforts during season 1.

“The Gorilla Terran”

TLAF-Liquid’Jinro - The Swedish superstar sets a new record for furthest Foreigner run in the GSL with his 3rd/4th place finished in the 2010 Sony Ericsson Starcraft II Open Season 3 gaining Code S and $8900.

FXOmOOnGLaDe - Going by the name 'GLaDe' on the SEA server, he has been monumental in his tournament achievments, including prized placings in both TransTasman Championships, the Mar Sara Trials, WD PSI Storm 2010 as well as some LANS and smaller tournaments.

One of mOOnGLaDe's strongest results to date has been his performance at IEM Season V - World Championship where he placed highest amongst non-Korean players at 4th place. After blitzing his group he finally fell to fellow ex-WC3 Night Elf and fellow Zerg Moon to qualify as second seed. After upsetting MorroW 3-1 he was defeated by Ace0-3, and fell to the 3rd place playoff against Squirtle where, in a close series, he was unable to take out the final game losing 2-3 but still securing a hefty $2,500 prize purse.

mouzMorroW - MorroW received an invite to IEM Season V - Global Challenge Cologne as a replacement for BRAT_OK, who was originally invited to the event but due to a mixup with his visa, could not attend. MorroW entered as an unknown to many due to his lack of results in high profile invitationals, but Artosis predicted that MorroW would meet IdrA in the finals of the tournament - Artosis' prediction held true and MorroW upset fan favorites such as TheLittleOne and Dimaga to make the final.

“The Gracken”

EGIdrA – Probably one of the most well know professional gamers on the scene, following his success in beta, IdrA was among the 10 invitees to the IEM Season V - Global Challenge Cologne, the first major live StarCraft 2 event in Europe. In that tournament, he achieved a clean slate in the group stages, beating all his opponents. He advanced 3-1 over Tarson to the final with great use of Mutalisks and the "magic box" technique. In the finals against MorroW, IdrA fell 3-1 to a heavily aggressive style of play from MorroW which featured heavy Reaper usage.

In addition to these things in 2011 for the first GOMTV Sponsorship League in January, IdrA managed to immediately secure his Code S for the following season by making it through the Round of 32 by defeating oGsEnsnare and CheckPrime.WE. In the Round of 16, IdrA made a surprising run of defeating TSL_Clide, NsPGenius and oGsNaDa, going 3-0 in his group stage. He would be one of two Zergs left standing in the quarter finals where he would ultimately lose 1-3 against fellow foreigner Liquid`Jinro. Despite his significant success, IdrA subsequently relinquished his Code S status as EG would announce on February 16th, his indefinite return to the United States after playing in Korea for 3 years.

These guys had a fantastic year with varying degrees of success. If you missed any of the Tourney’s previously mentioned in this post I highly recommend you search out the VODS and check them out.

Obviously I didn’t go into a great amount of detail, or list all the players who proved successful in Season 1, I just thought that it might make for an interesting discussion.

Cheers, and GL HF in Season 2.

Ridiculisk.

I can copy-paste wiki too.

In chemistry, an electrolyte is any substance containing free ions that make the substance electrically conductive. The most typical electrolyte is an ionic solution, but molten electrolytes and solid electrolytes are also possible.
Commonly, electrolytes are solutions of acids, bases or salts. Furthermore, some gases may act as electrolytes under conditions of high temperature or low pressure. Electrolyte solutions can also result from the dissolution of some biological (e.g., DNA, polypeptides) and synthetic polymers (e.g., polystyrene sulfonate), termed polyelectrolytes, which contain charged functional groups.
Electrolyte solutions are normally formed when a salt is placed into a solvent such as water and the individual components dissociate due to the thermodynamic interactions between solvent and solute molecules, in a process called solvation. For example, when table salt, NaCl, is placed in water, the salt (a solid) dissolves into its component ions, according to the dissociation reaction
NaCl(s) → Na+(aq) + Cl−(aq) It is also possible for substances to react with water producing ions, e.g., carbon dioxide gas dissolves in water to produce a solution which contains hydronium, carbonate, and hydrogen carbonate ions.
