Imo they should have done this long ago.. I think a lot of people stopped playing Starcraft 2 because they knew that they wouldn't ever get an easy win and cos ladder was always stressful.
Think their ladder system kinda failed as well, I had quite a few friends who were stuck at gold/plat/diamond for a few seasons and gave up after not being able to promote.
Wonder whether we'll see a complete overhaul for HOTS!
I dont get what they're saying......... Isnt it already like that? I know the favoured thing is supposed to be based off the bonus pool spent and doesnt really mean anything in terms of skill, but overall the entire league system is supposed to pitch you up against better players the more you win.
But I honestly thought the match making was quite okay for most part, dont know about league promotions etc, cause I've never been stuck in a league.
Edit: but based off targa's thread, this is already happening in SEA

Many games for me are already really poorly matched atm with a huge variance in skill. I thought it was just sc2 declining as a game and fewer players on SEA. Looks like blizzard are purposely breaking matchmaking to make things ''fun'' in season 7 which is only going to make this worse.
Seriously whats the point of me playing some plat dude and getting one point then losing the very same point to someone like Mafia. They should keep matchmaking as it is for sure
I agree with SlowHands, the ladder is already like what Blizzard is implementing. One game, I'll be playing a GM, lose 2 games and I'm playing a Diamond :|

It shouldn't be a given that you promote just cause you play. Promotion comes with improvement. SEA already has such wild variance in matchmaking, not sure how this will work out here.
I think the problem with the SEA server is that, in comparison to other servers, it is tiny. There is sure to be problems when in plat I am waiting for 5 mins for a game in the mornings.
Why would they just not merge us with KR or even NA? Yeah it would suck, but hey, better than a server with <20k players.
But, that being said, i feel you do get ground down with how slow you get promoted in this game. Unless you are like 2 levels higher than your current league, the chance of a mid season promotion is so low - like most players, i wait for the new season as my MMR has gone up, just not to the insane level necessary to convince the game i am actually a diamond player. Add to that, you have to play a heap of games, and 1 big losing streak (esp when there are some masters cruising around to "have some fun" or level a new account) and you are suddenly back where you were 50 games ago - with a shitty MMR and zero chance of promoting.
my 2c
EDIT for JoFritz below - i think it is meant for bigger servers where you can go an entire season while playing someone only in your league - which for me and you means we would go the entire season playing plats. and as we are meant to go 50-50 for the season (this season i am 135-125) it means your chances of actually getting a shot at the diamonds you need to get that promotion is pretty low. But like has been said, it will be great to see how that will work on SEA. probably no changes

wow, this is the stupidest thing i've seen blizzard do so far. The reason for having a ladder is so that you can vs people at a similar skill level to yourself rather then having to go into a custom game and hope the skill doesn't vary too much.
The reason why I enjoy winning games is because I'm fairly sure the person is within a similar skill level to me. When I win and check their league and they're a league below me I get dissapointed because it means I beat someone who I was meant to beat.
I don't see why blizzard has to has to make this change...

Yeah sometimes I never know what kind of league I'll be playing against. There's been times where I have played low level gold's and then the following match mid to high level diamonds - but then again I put that down to not many players being online on SEA. Hard for me to tell sometimes whether I should be playing a higher or lower league player or I'm matched against them simply because there is no other match to be made. Guess it'll become a bit more common though.
The main positive I can see from this is that I will be able to practice against people much better than me. While that sucks for them, I get a better feel for the higher leagues and in theory should improve quicker.
However, this may well be counter-acted by playing lowbies.

I agree, I think it is more beneficial for the lower brackets than the higher ones. It will be a good gauge for the lowbies to get familiar with higher brackets.
The problems I have is the lower ranked people in higher brackets that will get inundated with lowbies, that and the frustration lower bracket people with have with getting absolutely crushed by higher brackets.

SEA is always the testing ground first, and i noticed over the last 1-2 seasons, after 5 mins of searching ill end up getting master players and stuff and get +1-3 points whereas it wasnt possible before and i would have been made to kept on waiting. so i think they are just applying this to the whole world now and perhaps cutting down the wait time?
Most likely, maybe they did it because SEA is so much more smaller than EU and NA but now they trying it for the bigger servers (not sure if it was just for EU or all servers)

Reason: Response
If they're trying to get more people to lose their ladder fear I think the best way to do that would be to allow a reset to their account( a real one, unlike the season ends) like in iccup. But the problem with that is that it screws up the match making system, and promotes smurfing. So it's just a really awkward situation for blizzard.

its okay for everone else but its going frustrate the players at the top like mafia who wont be getting good games, although they will get very good win ratios.

No, I'm pretty sure what happened there was they introduced an MMR cap so the MMR can't rise above a certain point, this was due to people at the very top of GM never being able to get matches (you might remember the Huk smurfing incident because he literally couldn't get a game on his main account).
I think your right man, being a low gold myself i sometimes get matched against platinum and silvers and this could be alternating even when im only winning or losing?
