What if we hosted a Proleague in SC2SEA?

MEGA BIG EDIT:

Pardon me for my ignorance. I didn't know SEACL was something like that... In response to ChadMann, I hope this will be a huge suggestion to the upcoming SEACL.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is just a rough idea I have in mind. An SC2SEA Proleague.

Basically, there will be two leagues running concurrently. One league will be for clans to send in their main team, and the other league will be the one where clans can send in any other member, just to have exposure to playing in a tournament. Since we're all not full-time progamers, the leagues won't last for a year long, maybe just a league format, where every clan plays against each other until they have played against everyone, but in a Proleague format.

This is just very sketchy, no concrete plans have been thought of yet, I'm just making this thread to see what's the response going to be like.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Proleague format?

+ [What?] +
Basically, at some point of time, clans will need to submit their roster for the week. Let's have an example:

Map pool is given:

+ [Map pool] +
Abyssal City
Antiga Shipyard
Shakuras Plateau
Entombed Valley
Daybreak
Whirlwind
Ohana

Clan ToR 1 submits the following to play in this week's match

+ [ToRImba] +
DanO
ZooM
Pox
Spook
chobosniper
Pezz

EG-TL submits the following to play in this week's match:

+ [Impossibru!] +
HerO
TaeJa
JYP
Zenio
Jaedong
PuMa

The week's match between Clan ToR 1 and EG-TL will be as follows

+ [You wish it happened] +
DanO <Abyssal City> HerO
Zoom <Antiga Shipyard> TaeJa
Pox <Shakuras Plateau> JYP
Spook <Entombed Valley> Zenio
chobosniper <Daybreak> Jaedong
Pezz <Whirlwind> Puma
Ace <Ohana> Ace

If the match goes on to 3-3, the ace player will be picked on the spot. Repeat appearance is allowed, so, Clan ToR 1 can send out Dano again, and EG-TL can send out Jaedong again, and they will then play on Ohana.

This goes on until the end of the league, then the champion will be derived.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why Proleague format?

+ [Why?] +
1. To me, it measures the skill of the clan across the board. For All-Kill format, it is possible to just have one imba guy and you'll win the clan war. Imagine having MaFia and 5 bronze on your opponent's clan, and 6 Masters on your clan. All-Kill format will see the opponent's clan having a higher chance of winning, whereas Proleague format will measure the skill level of your whole clan.

2. It's quite interesting to watch Proleague format, because you are given 1 week's grace (or less) to prepare for your specific match-up and map. Furthermore, from what I've known, so far, every clan war that I've seen is All-Kill format. It's very typical for a Gold to win it all in a BSG clan war. If you have Proleague format, it's going to be kind of like rock paper scissors, but everyone has a fair chance of winning if you practice hard enough.

3. It requires a lot of thinking on the clan leader's side as well. Who is good at which map? Should I send out my ace player at Set4 like what the KeSPA teams always do in case of a worst-case scenario? Do I think I can last until the 6th set? Will the opponent team send a Protoss here or there so I can snipe him off? So on and so forth. We'll definitely see very interesting rosters coming out from the clans.

4. New players will definitely get a chance to show their prowess. You're guaranteed to have at least 4 of your clan members play in each match.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How will this work on SC2SEA?

+ [How?] +
Well, I'm not sure. That's why I'm making this thread to see the community's response to it. I'm aware that we all have work or school, so we definitely cannot have a rigid timetable to follow because, real life priorities should be more than gaming if gaming isn't part of your career. Perhaps clans should be allowed to decide between each other when do they want to play out the match of the week.

Because of that, what about the cast? What if the casters are not free? Here comes the tricky part. I'd go with the idea that no cast will be made, only replays will be released. If anyone wants to do the cast, they can, but I think it's better that they cast from the replays. I'm not for the idea of "just get any random caster who wants to cast", I want this to be as professional as it can be. So the casting system would be something like NASL, where they almost always cast from replays, and clans can just choose when they want to play out the match during the week.

Maybe also due to time constraints, matches will be played out bi-weekly, maybe on the 1st and 3rd week of the month. During the break in between, clans must then submit their rosters and start practising specifically for the match if they really want to take it seriously. So say on the 1st week, two clans finish their match. They must then submit their roster for the 3rd week's match on the coming Sunday. Maps will probably be given to the team on Saturday, so they have one day to plan.

Results will be posted at the end of the playing week then, with replays ready to be released as well. Perhaps a separate thread could be made for those who want to cast from the replays. This way, only selected match would be casted I guess, maybe those epic matches that lasted till 4-3.

Oh, another important point to note, live casts would be discouraged as well because of so many foreign tournaments running now. Some people would prefer to watch the real Proleague than SC2SEA's Proleague, or just other live casts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So... How do I join this Proleague?

+ [So many spoilers...] +
Calm your APM down. Again I say, this is just the planning stage of the planning. This has been fully thought out by me and if the response is good, I'll definitely rope in many more capable people than me to be the organizing committee, and we can all have a good show.

Like I said before too, as of now, there will be two leagues running concurrently. One would probably be called the serious league, the other called the clown league. The former league will definitely be the more glorious one, hopefully with prizes to be won. The other just probably a cheesefest or what not (just saying!). without much prizes to be given or maybe none at all.

When this actually happens, clans would just have to sign up, and they won't have to submit a full roster, as we'll definitely see people joining clans and leaving clans quite often.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poll time!

How do I make polls... Never mind, I'll just ask questions here and please answer them in this thread!

+ [Questions!] +
1. Are you interested in seeing this happen in SC2SEA, regardless of whether you'll be participating / watching or not? (Yes / No)

2. Should there be live casts? (Yes / No)

3. If no, should there be replays with cast or just replays?

4. Any other important points to address that you think I missed out.

5. Bonus question: If live casts were implemented, would you watch this over any other casts? Please answer this truthfully, I won't send a lynch mob to hunt you down. It really helps in the planning and to gather proper feedback and response!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for making time to read this. Please give your truthful responses and feedback to this. I look forward to seeing this become a reality despite this being at a foetus stage. Have a Blessed Christmas!

(I won't be around to reply in this thread until this Thursday as I'll be in camp. Darn conscript.)

This seems to overlap with SEACL quite heavily

Firstly, SEACL is coming.. it will be out shortly with a sign up thread.

Secondly, Pro-league format is awesome.. but top tier 'pro-teams' don't have a big enough roster to play 6 players each week..
I think the xGTL format would suit SEA teams better..

Other than that - good suggestions and we will take them into consideration for SEACL..
Have a merry XMas

Yea, personally I dont really see the need for a new proleague as we already have a few. By reading the comments from this thread it tells me that there "SEACL" so I suppose we could leave it there. MAybe one day!

If you can find sponsors for it, i say go for it.

We can never have too many tournaments with a high prize pool. Maybe not run it concurrently with the SEACL, but you can run it after SEACL is over. The coming SEACL and the last one was so long apart it would have been nice to have another CL in between.

EDIT: Nvm didnt see the post date, sorry.

I'd love to see a LAN nation wars. Hold qualifiers and Top 5 from each State go to Sydney for 2-3 days and play each other in GSTL or Proleague format to determine who is best region.

NSW probably wins, but it'd be a great way to get exposure (Tasmania, ACT) and create some exciting games. You know how we cheer Australians playing IEM and stuff? We'd go even deeper and have you cheering for your state!
