Hi I'm with Iinet right now I get an average of 160Kb a second.
And It works fine for like 2-5 hours then I get like 20Kb/s and I have to reset my modem.
Anyway I'm not exactly sure what the plan is.
my dad started it.
Anyway I'm going to start paying for my own internet now.
So I'm looking for the best consistent internet speed lowest price etc
Anyway any help would be great
Thanks* ^^

I dunno what it's like in Western Australia, but I'm on a telstra bigpond plan thats bundled with like home phone and shit (so I don't know how much it's worth) and it's 100GB/month, which is enough for me.. I can get up to like 25mb/s down, 1.3 up which is pretty good in comparison to other Australian internet..
Rarely drops out (although the past couple days the floods have fucked it around a bit), very consistent speed.

Im on telstra cable ultimate 500gb plan which is 100$ a month with speeds of 100/2.4. Best bet would be to put your address into http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/ and see how far you are away from your exchange as a new plan may not make a difference.
how sure are you the problem is not with your modem? a few friends had a similar thing with tpg where the modem they supply is a piece of crap and would overheat and start dropping connections and need to be reset.

Ok thanks for the Info how do I test if its the modem without buying a new one?

I am in Perth, and depending on your suburb the internet can be seriously hit or miss. I think the first thing to establish is if you are behind a RIM, because if you are ADSL2 is not going to be an option (my situation). If this is the case, there is no cheap option - you pay more for worse internet. I went with Vividwireless (4G) which ended up being better than my iinet ADSL1 through Wesnet (still not that great, but before if one person was streaming in the house no one else could use the internet). At least now we can have 3 streams going and still be able to check FB and read the forums at the same time. Ping wise, I don't think my connection is gaming quality but I can say that it was way worse before (like 2 second spikes all the time). Cost for Vivid is not cheap ($80 per month for 2-6mb; averaging around the 3 mark)

This is what I use as well. I get around 35~48 down and 2+ up.
It's better than what I have used in Aus/NZ but like LoSt said, in the last couple of days it's been slowing down and dropping out heaps

Its still going to come down to the line quality, and if the port is just rented off Telstra there won't be much difference in speeds, saying that, Telstra are Hitler, taken me about 20 phone calls to get someone to look at my net that they claim there is nothing wrong with and then go on tell me i should be getting 5-7Mbps when i get under 1Mbps most of the time.. I used to get the 5Mbps.

check how far you are from an exchange as well as this does take affect of your internet speeds. http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/australian_exchange_guide
if you are say less than aprox 1.5 km from an exchange you will get a really good speed. there will be some that are private for specific isp providers, ie, tpg and iinet
^^ this is more complex and helpfull. used this to make sure i have good net whenever i move houses.
just google map the address of the exchange to your house.
I think it is something like if your over 3 kms the quality drops the further you go and if your over 6kms you cannot get adsl 2 in your area. :P I will eventually find an info sheet.
if you tick both boxes with the exchange, don't be afraid to call them to say that your internet has been acting strange, but let your dad know that a iinet rep might come down to test things for you (they sometimes charge you)
If you live in rural remote areas, sometimes telstra is the only option to get good net, however it can be extremely pricey.
You should check out the Whirlpool Forum's, they are all into that stuff more then we are
Agreed. If you need any information about ANYTHING related to Australian Internet Whirlpool is the place to be, had many issues fixed thanks to its collective mind.
