Lolwut's gaming gear

So at the moment I am playing Starcraft 2 without headphones on a logitech mouse and a keyboard made by "The PC company". I am wondering if anyone has any reccomendations on headphones and if the keyboard you play on makes a difference and if so what keyboard you would reccomend. If anyone has any opinions on this please tell me . Keep in mind I live in New Zealand so some things may not be available there and I am on a low-moderate budget.

EDIT: I play with the core hotkeys if that makes any difference

Thanks- Lolwut

PS: I would like to say sorry if this thread is in the wrong place, I didn't really know where to put this thread.

To a certain extent it's what you are used to, but at the highest levels there are obvious advantages to having better keyboards. I've been using the Meka G1 for ages and love it.

Will show prices for almost every computer retailer.

I recommend anything made by Roccat and using a full Roccat setup.

Buy eSports gear, support eSports - think about what your fav eSports team and who you might like to support in SEA or what ever scene.. Every bit of gear has a lot of personal preference, especially mice - so see if you can get down to a LAN or something and try out a few bits and pieces.

Also I agree with GreenArchon.. Razer 11/10

I use the Logitec G35 headset. i think they are reasonably good for their price, as for keyboards its what you prefer.

I for one use the Razer Ultimate Black Widow and love it to bits.. even so that when i broke my first 1 i got it again.

Im sure you could check ebay and suss a few things out from there tho.

If you have the money, then a mechanical keyboard is definitely the way to go. You will have far less fatigue on your fingers compared to a non-mech. I use the Filco Tenkeyless Ninja with Cherry Brown switches and the reduced strain was noticeable by me after only a few days.

Headset, I use Razer Carcharias at home or at LAN events, or I use Logitech UE's when going to friends house's with my laptop - I still take my keyboard when using my laptop though!

If you are serious about getting a quality keyboard, and to dump some money in one that will last for quite a while you should definitely research mechanical switch types and get a feel for what you're aiming for. Razer have keyboard with both Cherry Blue (BlackWidow's) and Cherry Brown (BlackWidow Stealth). Steelseries, Filco, Ducky all make really good quality mechanical keyboards.

If you need a good keyboard build but can't get a mech keyboard, Razer would be the way to go IMO.

I have a question somewhat relevant to the thread;
what's the difference between these keytypes?
like, Cherry brown, Cherry red, etc.
I've heard people mention them when talking about mech keyboards, but I never understand what they quite mean, and what difference it makes.

Ok, mechanical switches.

http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/me...e#post_6009482

This is an excellent guide on switches. Here are things to know:

There are 3 types of switch
  • Clicky Tactile (makes a sound and you can feel when the key has "actuated")
  • Tactile (less click noise with a feel when "actuated")
  • Linear (no click or feedback)

There is also something called actuation force, basically this is the force required to make the key send the signal to the PC. This ranges from 45g (very light) to 70g (quite heavy/tough). (g = grams)

Cherry switches have the "actuation point" (the point while pressing the key down that the key has registered a click) at approx. half way down the key press (2mm) and the key bottoms out at 4mm, thats where the plastic of the keycap has hit the base plate. This is different from all normal keyboards which have a general actuation of approx 55-60g and require you to bottom out before actuation.

Different types of switch are available, though the most popular are Cherry Brown, Blue, Red and Black. These are also the most common to get, others are usually much harder to find.

Cherry Red: Linear, 45g
Cherry Black: Linear, 60g
Cherry Blue: Clicky Tactile, 50g
Cherry Brown: Tactile (often refered to as "stealth"), 45g

Brown and Blue are usually recommended for use in RTS style games, where the Red and Black are usually recommended for FPS. If you regularly play both types, the general recommendation is to get Red. There are reasons for these recommendations, but you can Google that

Hope this has explained some

Currently I am looking at the Roccat Kulo, Roccat Kulo virtual 7.1 and the Roccat Kave 5.1 headsets. There is about $40(nz) in between them. I am leaning towards the cheapest (Roccat Kulo) as I don't think I really need surround sound as I don't play much FPS. Is this a good assumtion, or will the virtual 7.1 be a lot better for gaming and watching videos?

well i always loved Razer products and did at one time own all razer products. I but recently i changed over from my Blackwidow Ultimate mechanical keybaoard to a TT Esports Meka G1 and i love my new keyboard other than that i feel razer mice are the best in relation to design and performance.
I still use my Deathstalker mouse by razer and it is by far the most comfortable mouse I have ever owned.
However I dont suggest you get razer headphones since there are many more which are better in quality than razer with a decent price. I have owned a Razer Cachiaras and it regret buying it because it is not as good as i thought to be.

At the end of the day it really comes down to preference. Go try it out if you mate's have a brand u like and see if u dont like it and not then try out others first. A lot of shops/stores have demos you could try before you buy so go in and have a feel

I havent tried the kulo but ive heard its trash, the kave 5.1 is the best headset ive owned by far, its a little heavy but the sound is fantastic, also doubles as speakers.
I wouldnt recommend razer audio (its bad) but their mice are great.I'm using an imperator atm and its been good for nearly 2 years

I've had a blackwidow and i'm using a das keyboard atm, both really good.

I use Razer Orca head phones, but i would also recommend the Astro A30's for a head set as well.

I currently use a ThermalTake esports challenger keyboard....
I would also recommend the Razer Lycosa... i used it a lot and it broke :/.

Mouse... again i would go with Razer Death Adder... or the one im currently using the Mamba.

Some of these may not be cheap.... but they are pretty damn good.

The lycosa is just not good it is membrane you may as well be using a windows keyboard, if you are looking for something in that price range i suggest the Tt Knucker it is membrane but feels mechanical and is a really good keyboard. I got to use it at ACL melb last year and it was great i thought it was mechanical.

I looked at the price and never realized how much it was (seeing 74.99+ tax).

I receive a lot of promo stuff through WCG... as an item i did not have an issue with it... i've seen reviews now saying the opposite... but there is always the positive/negative. I'm sure nowaways you could find possibly a better keyboard for the same value.

Looking to get a new headset first, Feedback I am currently getting is that I should buy the kave 5.1 over the Kulo?

Quick Comments

yup!
 MezjE:
Kave is an awesome headset. I too think it is better than the Kulo.
