Over the past few months, numerous people/organisations have approached me about the possibility of Nv expanding into other titles - predominantly League of Legends.
I've always said I'm not closed to the idea, but I wouldn't be in a position to manage it personally. Recently, this snowball has started gathering momentum and with ESL Australia now supporting League of Legends with weeky GO4LoL competitions, I think it's a good time to extend our branches.
So since I'm almost entirely disconnected from the entire MOBA/LoL community, I'm in no position to be recruiting players and directing the team. But I know there are a lot of people here who are more adequately aligned and might take an interest.
My general goal would be to have an entirely separate division, managed by an individual who has the competency and commitment to take advantage of the Nv brand / opportunities and make the sky their only limit.
So my question is - Anyone here interested in being part of Nv.LoL team/management? Keep in mind that our existing sponsorship agreements are exclusive to the SC2 division & players, so your only means of support would be from me at this stage.
Two important notes.
1. This would be a dedicated role. Not something to do on the side when you don't feel like playing SC2. So I'm probably asking in the wrong place, but I'd like to begin with people i'm familiar with, and people who are familiar with Nv.
2. I haven't fully committed to this decision yet. I'm just gauging interest at this stage.
3. If I were to go ahead with it, I wouldn't be investing as much (of my own) money into it as I am the SC2 guys. I would guarantee some of the same benefits though.
I should probably prefix this by saying that I play both SC2 and LoL and although not being amazing at either of them I have a decent understanding of both.
After finding sc2sea.com I tried to find a similar community for LoL in Australia. I found a few forums but nothing really like sc2sea. I've sorta come to the conclusion that Australia has quite a large LoL following based on LANs and what have you that I have seen and some major events as well, but I feel a lot of it is currently for lack of a better word, 'underground'. Moreso, it just hasn't been quite tapped into like the sc2 community is starting to be. I think it is starting to develop as you say with ESL Australia's support, but I do feel it is behind the sc2 community. Although, as I've said, I think there is actually quite a large collection of LoL players in Australia.
I think expanding into LoL would by know means be an easy step to make, as it takes a slightly different skill set to that required in sc2, and the community is not developed. However, I would love to see Nv and/or other groups expand further into LoL as although its not considered as good of a game as say DotA or other MOBAs, it is undoubtedly expanding eSports around the globe.
I think just through the accessibility of the game if nothing else, it presents a good avenue for current teams in other genres to expand into. If theres some way I could help out, I'd be more than happy too.
My 2 cents man League isn't the best cyber sport to invest in, most league of legends pro's will openly admit that they prefer Dota/HON to league and play purely for the money. Although the league competitive community is large at the moment the reason for that is league is more accessible and where the money is at.Once Dota 2 is released Valve will pump so much money into the competitive scene and help make the game accessible to all that I doubt league will be able to compete with the Competitive scene that Dota 2 will have.
I think this is a Great Idea. With league of legends becomming such a big esport It is definatly something to consider and with the large veiwer base as well it would be something that would work out really well in form of exposure for a Team.
I am not saying this is going to be an easier feat tho. With so many people playing League of legends and the community been very harsh and strong it iwll be hard to break out into the scene. But i beilive that if you are able to make it to the scene smoothly, Great things will definatly come to it assuming u have a Dedicated Team Who strive to improve all the time.
i keep watch on the sea forums but i have done the opposite to u i have detched from sc2 recently and started playign alot more LoL. I reckpn this is a great idea and ive been playign LoL for quite a while now playing both ranked and normal if you do go ahead ill gladly help however i cn im not sure what id help with but if u need it
my friend herbz might be interested! though i think he wants to focus on dota2 rather than LoL i know he wants to become very competitive at the game, and he would definitely be one of the top moba players of any game he put his mind to
