Have you been a massive geek and gone that little bit too far, feeling the twitch, numbness and maybe even outright pain in your fingers, forearm or wrists?
I'm writing an article this week about the injuries gamers are contracting from going too hard, and I'd like to hear about your experiences. If you've ever contracted some kind of problem that was so bad it affected your gaming or your life - that is, forced you to stop playing, take a break or even as severe as surgery or splints - then get in touch.
It's my regular column with games.on.net, if you're wondering. (I'm also trying to get in touch with a surgeon for an expert opinion on the whole field of carpal tunnel/RSI-related pain, but I need gamers with first-hand experience too!)
PS. dippizuka on skype if you need to get in touch, @thedippaeffect on Twitter or a PM here will suffice.
This is awesome and something I thought about ages ago but never got around to. However, everyday I read so much misinformation and plain crap about medical topics. I strongly recommend you write absolutely nothing without the advice of a professional who is willing to be named in the article. This will ensure that they read the article for accuracy before it gets published.
Also note, that to my knowledge, no one has ever done research on RSI type injuries in the gamer field (probably they have in Korea or something), and while they are likely to be very similar to those suffered by office workers, there will be exceptions as well. Such as back and eye problems.
Well once when satu was over, my cat jumped on him and scared him and he was in an engagement and he won it. when saying something to the cat. That hurt me mentally knowing that i still fail engagements when im focused and he wins even when talking to my cat T_T
I've had carpal tunnel for ages now, it's gotten slightly better after doing a few stretches for it, but I stopped doin them thinkin it was healed, recently came back but nowhere near as bad as before.
Um my wrists were already damaged from cricket but seemed to get even worse when I first started playing. I also get a stiff neck from playing too much sometimes.
my left wrist hurts like hell for some reason, even though I've only played for 2 days after a 1 month break.
other than that, I haven't experienced any other problem other than the occasional mindfreeze after looking away from 4+ hours of staring at the screen
My overplaying of violent video games has caused be to become impossible to sexually arouse unless I'm shooting a huge gun with a grenade in my left hand.
