I had the A40s last time and yes, its not recommended for PC unless you have a good sound card and fiber optic port in your sound card. I prefer to just get a Steelseries Siberia for SC2.
I got my A40's for Halo on the Xbox, but use them on Starcraft and skype as well and have to say the quality and comfort is nothing short of amazing! I would highly recommend them. Very good quality
I bought my A40 + Mixamp system primarily for playing Halo competitively and in a LAN setup (the daisy chaining of multiple A40 Mixamp systems is amazing). I use them to play LoL and Starcraft now, and to sit on Mumble with friends. It's still really good quality headphones for PC, but if you're going to use them primarily for PC gaming, I'd recommend looking at other headphones such as by Steelseries.
Yeah, if you're happy to fork out the cash for the mixamp, but with or without soundcard you're going to get atleast equal sound quality from a pair of audiotechnica AD700s, (which are like 120 bucks on eBay I believe) and the mic can be replaced with any random clip on mic (I use my webcam mic now actually to save cable space.) Also, there's honestly just no need whatsoever to spend more than 100 bucks on a set of headphones unless you spend ALOT of time listening to music outside of gaming. As far as gaming is concerned, youre just not going to tell the difference between the A40s and a pair of steelseries siberias or something unless you're a competitive FPS player looking for good soundstaging for directional sound.
