I have always had this idea of a tournament in my mind. I also see it more and more used as of late in big tournaments like the GSL and IPL.

The basic outline would be a team league format. There is a coach that directs the next player to be chosen. Pretty much the format of the the GSTL. There would be a winners and losers bracket. Single elimination from the winners bracket brings you to the losers bracket and losing there means you are out. Each match up of teams would be in in Bo(5/7/9/11) (Indecisive on number).

Requirements to join:
~ Have a team of 6 or more players. (May different depending if Bo(5/7/9/11))
~ Team / Clan / Group Name with Logo
~ Being Active within the League / Tournament


What do you think of the format of the tournament / league?

Is this too much to ask from a person?

Do do you think you would participate even if there was no prize cash award?

It's been done in various formats. The BSG and PD clan leagues used the all-kill format where you select the next player based on what's happened so far.

The SEA Clan league used the proleague format though, with 4 sets followed by an ace match, where both teams pick a player for the set just knowing the starting map.

As Erasmus said previously it has been done. But don't let that stop you if you would like to run a competition. A lot of competitions get a reasonable number of players who participate in tournaments simply to have fun knowing full well they probably won't win the cash reward (if there is one).

Currently a BSG and PD Proleague style of tournament is being held... the BSG/PD State of Origin. To the best of my knowledge there's no prize for that... but I can assure you there is a lot of state pride! This is proof that it's not too much for one person to organise (although many hands make light work) and the willingness of people to join "priceless" tournaments.

Also, for reference: The match type you described which sends players to a lower bracket is called "Double Elimination".

Oh yeah, don't take it as me saying not to do it or anything, just pointing out the team format isn't completely new, and pointing out some examples, if you want any inspiration or the like (or just to see what kind of signup those tournaments had).

Can work with no cash prizes but there should be a prize of some sort to reward the efforts of the winning team, some of the comps just offer a TGM subscription, clan logo design, or coaching from a top player.
