Hey there peeps ,
I was surfing the teamliquid and found out Broodwar player streaming with status "...... long live bw " , i wonder why don't they just transition to sc2 ? it's just sad to see BW's players keep on reducing..
Starcraft 2's gameplays are not so different from Broodwar and since Starcraft 2 is more popular nowdays , as BW players , i'm sure they can do well in Starcraft 2 , just have to get use to it..
What is your thoughts ?

It's a game , it is made with the purpose to bring happiness to people !

Well I guess its a form of tradition. The BW period and the SC2 period is completely different. We see a lot more international involvement in the SC2 days, whereas BW wasn't as international. I think it's just the question of whether some of these players can accept a new culture as they have indulged themselves so much into Broodwar, and for them to come into SC2, it may be hard. Take Boxer for example, he was named emperor of BW, but of course he is not emperor of SC2, instead he became SlayerS's captain - but the difference is, he is just one of many that was lucky enough to find another role in the SC2 generation, or else he wouldn't have been able to be as successful.

BW is still more popular in Korea than sc2, and the pros make a lot more money than they would if they switched. Pro BW players can make 6 digit salaries, plus winnings, so I'd stick with it too if I was them!
Alot of people that play Brood War don't want to transition to SC2 because of a few things:
They believe it to be a better game
They don't have to upgrade their pc / buy SC2
It's harder to play
They prefer the original Battle.net
The epic long history of competitive BW
And the BW pros have been making so much money playing in Proleague / OSL / etc they have no need to transition to SC2, although with SC2 Proleague coming soon and Mike Morhaim talking to KeSpa again this might change.
I love SC2. It's my favourite game. But people are perfectly justified in preferring BW. Yes SC2 and BW are very similar but they are NOT the same game. That said I would still love to see SC2 evolve as a game and an eSport and watch some of my favourite BW pros that haven't transitioned yet light up the main stages playing my favourite game
IMO, bw is more fun to play atleast in sc2's current state.
You can put that down to anything you like, nostalgia, gameplay, mechanics.
I think for me what really feels good is partly the mechanics, remaxing after a fight, coming back to see 5 probes sitting idle and having coffee outside the nexus. Controlling only 12 units..might sound weird but it makes the battles look chaotic and cool. Compare PvT in bw and PvT in sc2 for example.
....and reavers . A reaver hitting a bunch of fleeing workers while being micro'ed out of a shuttle is one of the most satisfying experiences you can have in a game.
I'm not even good at the game, like a D+ at best. But i't's just a lot of fun to play. Other cool stuff: storm on hydras, conquering goon stupidity. Actually thinking about how your base will look for each map, because if you dont position buildings properly, you wont be able to macro properly,, arbitersss...etc.
I'd definitely agree with everyone who says they consider BW a better game. I have more fun with SC2 personally, but I can definitely see the complexity of the original being more appealing. And anyone who's attempted to play multiplayer BW and SC2 cannot disagree BW is harder >.<
Aside from that, I guess there's a number of other applicable factors: Nostalgia, dominance of the Korean eSports scene, Maynarde covered pretty much most of the possible ones. I imagine if most of us had gotten into SC ~5 years ago, there'd be some who'd have stuck with BW as well, just because the effort of changing games is too much, and they can't be bothered cause they don't think it's worth it. Same reason I refused to play HoN/LoL xD
Brood War is a far more balanced and competitive game - the strategies are so much more developed and thought out.. the difference between SC2 and Broodwar is like comparing the meta game of SC2 today to how it was in Beta or release. Plus, the hardcore that are still playing Broodwar now, have been playing it for years - it is most likely a part of their life and personality, difficult to change..
I can see the competitive scene of brood war dying out in the next few months/year and many great Brood war players moving onto SC2 - then things will get interesting. I wish Blizzard would hurry up with HotS and the Protoss Void whatever its called expansions so the final balance and meta game of SC2 can be explored. I guarantee you that there will be new big names stepping up after the changes brought in from HotS and the Void expansion.
Put yourself in their shoes.
For example
"I'm damn good in BW. Why should i transition to a totally new game like sc2 when i can continue owning in BW". At least i guranteed get a salary and PL and may OSL to play in. While if i transit to sc2, i need to relearn a new game for a few months before i get good enough to go for code A qualifiers..
Not really worth it imo. Nostalgia? NAH. More of being practical. BW being more popular? To a certain extent. sc2 obviously have a higher price pool but BW is have a much higher viewer count.
I always found BW just a more enjoyable game. I don't know why, but it just felt as if you were always having to do something mechanically with no real time to think when you compare it to starcraft 2.
Of course this is my opinion, and it is probably a silly one since I am awful at both games so talking of mechanics is pointless .
Coming from relatively high level, the qualities needed to play at a high level for sc2 are far less mechanical and far more strategical than that of broodwar in the later broodwar years. Something which i don't particularly like about sc2 and most "broodwar elitists" even more so. I'd even go as far as saying some of the people that can play this game at a high level using certain play styles downright upsets me and makes me loathe a lot about sc2 in general... Or i guess maybe im just one of those nasty broodwar elitists at heart, but I doubt anyone that played broodwar at a decent level on iCCup would disagree with any points I've made in this thread.
That being said, none of these points are necessarily "bad" things about sc2, it being more strategical than mechanical (although still maintaining both aspects), is something some people would obviously love as opposed to hate about the game. It's just something people that absolutely love broodwar as a game generally dislike about sc2 as a game.

I'm remaining naively optimistic that the HotS & LotV expansions will alleviate this, because if we look back to vanilla StarCraft/War3, the competitive gameplay was effectively stale.
Blizzard seems to execute that magical transformation with every product, so fingers crossed I guess...
Why aren't you playing LoL? It's the more popular esport, everyone loves it, even casuals! What's that, you think LoL is retarded? Guess how many BW players see SC2.
I find it shocking you can't grasp that people might want to play a game they prefer, and has far more history/reputation as a competitive game.

I think its all about contracts, really good players from BW dont want to switch because they dont want to risk their career. Players that were already really out of shape like boxer switched since they have nothing to loose.
