Hey guys, I know there’s the music thread already but I thought I might make one for those who play sing or play instruments / produce music / write music / dance to music etc. I know there’s a lot of you here – so come out of the shadows and tell us about or show us your endeavours.
Myself, I’m a drummer of say 8 years. I’m brainstorming here - Very influenced by drummers such as Virgil Donati (Aussie ftw.), Jojo Mayer, Brann Dailor and John Bonham. I’ve been playing in the same band since High school it’s a hard rock/prog metal affair. I do play gigs around Tassie lol – I’ve been the drummer in quite a few musicals.. most recently Chicago and I’ve also purchased a bitchin' DW performance series kit.
I’ve been delving into electronic music quite a bit lately. I’ve posted a couple here before and yeah!
Here’s my latest thing – critique it all you want please! http://soundcloud.com/benbottle/harbottle-test
btw my other friend (u might rmb him, he made the thread about mechanical keyboards) took that very same picture u see of stef standing on that tank...... that was a real tank in a military zone lol!! they had no idea.. they thought it was abandoned and stuff so he was happily standing on top of a live tank then he got chased away by soldiers and it was all filmed lolllll
video here http://vimeo.com/34922864 WATCH IT LOL
As for me i used to play in a band with my best friends when i was in 17-19 haha.. all we did was covers and we sucked lol. we would take turns playing guitar/drums/singing it was all just for fun, pretty sure if we performed "live" stuff would have stuff thrown at us until we got off stage. My hobbies back then was basically sc1 and band practice. yea ofc we played nirvana covers! As well as some gnr, metallica, slayer, megadeth all that old school stuf, which was already considered old school back then.. so it must be dinosaur music for this generation.
One of my band mates decided to be a musician and he plays with Olivia Ong sometimes and currently lives in japan, really admire him for following his dream!! As for me i was never talented enough nor did I love music THAT much that I'll enjoy doing it 24/7 as work, so I decided to just keep it as a hobby. I recently sold my drum set for 50 bucks to some kid who was super happy cause chloe said it was taking up too much space. I just play guitar as a hobby nowadays and not very often... At our wedding dinner i ended up playing Extreme's "more than words" on guitar while my wife played the melody line on the flute and that will probably be the last of bryan choo's music career!!
I play some Bass, used to be in a few bands but didn't work out and I stopped playing music all together, sort of coming back nowadays, playing the odd rhcp/metallica/muse songs to get me in the groove again
Haven't played in a band for a while, since I was maybe 16-18, but might be getting another one going soon
Influence-wise, I'd say people like Geddy Lee from Rush, Bourke Shelley from Budgie, etc - guys in 3 piece bands who really drive the melody. Also guys like Cliff Burton (from Metallica's early days) who stand out in 4 piece bands for that sort of play also
Oh and Bottles, Virgil kicks maximum ass! Sooo good. Are you a fan of Terry Bozzio as well?

So, how about yourselves?
That's cool as. I DJ myself (no set genre but these days tests to be a mixture of house/nu disco) and recently bought an Akai MPK49 which I'm learning to use with Ableton.
What software have you been using for production?
P.S. I really should upload some of my mixes I've done, have dozens some people may like.

I played piano for 10 years (from when I was 6 until I left school at 16/17) and then started playing guitar after until now (I'm 20 now)
I got really sick of piano, I never practiced, it felt like such a chore, but I love playing my guitar, just wish I had of started earlier!! I really like playing finger style but also chords and that for nirvana songs (fav band) and Pink Floyd songs also, as well as like your RHCP and Eric Clapton songs that everyone can play
Edit: a really nice song for acoustic guitar is broken horse by freelance whales, check it out! I wish I had a good singing voice so I could sing it too

I started to learn piano when I was a kid and then unfortunately moved house to somewhere that didn't have one for awhile and just never went back to it. I plan to now, especially after buying a new keyboard

I'm the same - I still have a keyboard but I wouldn't say I'm any kind of pianist. It's handy if I want to quickly create a midi track though. I also played violin from 7-12 which got me started I guess
I've enver really experimented with electronic music but I'd be keen to give it a go, and I'm keen to hear some of your guyses stuff!
