Pretty much the title. When we take the robo tech path, we usually start an observer straight after the robo finishes to get a quick scout. What if we get a warp prism instead?
Pros:
-faster
-doesn't cost gas
-can be used for harass now or later in the game
-might confuse zerg player and make them build more defense than they need to
-more hitpoints, harder to get sniped by spore crawlers
Cons:
-costs more minerals
-not invisible
-costs 1 more supply (but who cares seriously)
-can't camp/follow zerg army
-reveals tech path
The main reason I think this should be considered is the resources. For low-gas openers such as 1gate expand or FFE, the extra 75 gas could speed tech up a lot, while maintaining a decent sentry count. And at the same time, it can be used for fancy harassment to distract the zerg while teching as fast as possible at home. In other words, this might be a good way to rush for collosus and upgrades without falling too far behind.
Thoughts?

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

I do that occasionally, the problem is if they snipe it with queens =/
well, the warp prism should be fast enough to escape without taking any hull damage unless they have 3+ queens. just like how overseers escape easily from 1-2 stalkers.

But in reality, a Queen shouldn't be able to snipe it if you have half an eye on it. Since the shield buff it takes 1 queen forever to take down a warp prism.
I think it's a brilliant idea! zerg has nothing that really hits air efficiently for a long time, which makes it easy to scout, and like you mentioned, if have the option to drop zealots if needed or what ever you like.
What I am not sure about is build time? the prism might even be faster to build?
makes sense the only issue is it cost you a gate way and reveals your tech path sounds good tho il start trying it out to ^_^ gotta get my sea rank back anyway :P

true, but if you're heavy teching you wouldn't be using that gateway too much anyway. but i'll add the fact that it reveals tech path to the OP
Yeah but so does an observer... I think it's a tops idea, because A) You can rush it out, and B) you can attack the zergs third without having travel distance... You could even load 2 high energy sentrys in and get a FF block third kill for the cost of a few zealots...
the extra build time and supply are pretty big cons imo, an observer is cheap as dirt and invisible! a warp prism won't be able to see anything of importance since a queen can shoo it away, getting two obs is a lot better, if you want to drop harass then get a warp prism too, the observers will allow you to get the warp prism to where you want it unscouted.
I have a replay vs RedArchon from months ago... basically pioneer'd this..
Scouting warp prism to spot for drops.. and counter if the Terran moves out.
More seriously, I would say that with the Warp Prism, when scouting something, your opponent knows you know and that's a interesting info for him. If he was sneaky too, he might change his plans. At the contrary, with a obs, you might unravel some secret plan without him knowing you discovered it.
I do quite like that idea and you can get it out quite quick and invest that gas into something else. Obs are soo gas intensive 25/75 is stupid xD Its good because you can get a fast scout and if you want immortal drop harras to snipe some of their tech structures.
I have been trying that kind of play lately, I find it to be quite fun and its good for your micro/macro.
Gold Scrub ftw ^^ you can do a 12 drone rush and win in gold xD
I like the theory crafting, and it sounds kinda cool
except that i think it would only ever be useable if you dont do a forge expand
the timing of a 2 base muta can actually hit before an obs, or a hallucinated phoenix, can get to the zergs base to scout their tech
i feel that going stargate is the safest way to scout because if they are going muta u can continue phoenix productions, and make a twilight for blink, but if you've already dedicated ur tech to robo when mutas fly in should pretty much just type gg
this is obviously a coinflip situation, and wont happen every game, but its just a risk you might want to think about if u want to scout with a warp prism after a forge fast expand vs a zerg who doesnt take a fast 3rd
