I don't know what it is about this season, maybe I'm just a horrible Diamond zerg player, but I've been vsing some supposed 'gold' and 'platinum' league players and have just been totally stomped. Are players intentionally losing to get back into the lower leagues? I'm sure it wasn't like this in the previous seasons.
I've uploaded some replays - maybe I made some massive errors that cost me the game? Or are these people really just trolling the lower leagues for their own amusement?
The protoss was mid-platinum and the terran was high rank gold.
This is entirely random and unrelated, but hey! I remember playing vs you on ladder!
As for the players who you describe as 'intentionally losing', they could be portrait farmers, meaning they just want to get xxx wins portraits, etc. Not that uncommon, has been around since Season 1
Yeah! It's probably other people using their friend's accounts. Treat this as an experience so you can improve your play as you are vsing better people. See the replay, find your problems and win them eventually. There's no portrait farmers in higher leagues!

I speak from experience, right jason?
I hate you so much. It was probably you giving this poor person grief!

It could also be because of the ladder lock at the end of the season. You can have a really high MMR but not get promoted in the last week or two of a season.
If it's just one game probably just someone playing on their friends account. I beat a Plat kid the other day but it took everything I had, check his match history with 10 straight wins in a row and he messages me after saying he's masters on NA.
If it's more than one game then your MMR is probably getting low as you're not winning enough

Lose 1 ladder point, but still very disheartening.
Surely the practise is worth it though. I would play 20+ ladder games vs GM players even if I was guaranteed to lose every one just for the replays and the experience.

So far this season (also in Diamond) I've vsed everyone from silvers to mid-masters. I've lost to a few golds with suspiciously good win streaks. I played one silver (account named MKP *cough*) which was 16-0 after tanking placements 0-5. I even beat that account (I checked last night.. it's now 20+-2 or something, and still silver).
As a general rule though, unless you are only vsing golds or something, it'll just be playing against outliers in those leagues with a high MMR and higher uncertainty due to win streaks which means they haven't actually been promoted yet.
There are occasions when people who should have been promoted long ago simply dont because of the ladder ranking system, or their MMR is super high but they just havent been promoted yet.
but dont place too much importance on their league and rank, look inwards to your own playstyle to see how you could improve and what mistakes you made and how to become better.
if you spend your time focusing on the people who beat you instead of why they beat you then you wont improve very much at all.
I haven't started season 4 yet, as i only have a laptop atm and i am still getting used to playing on it, and also after a 5-6 week hiatus due to constant bsod that my cpu techs can't seem to fix...
I have noticed though that you get some people that change races and move up the ranks from bronze again, or simply are hitting their strides and are actually getting better!
I have had alot of gold players forfeiting matchs and tanking losses in one day I had three diffrent golds drop out 10 secs into the game. Which makes me feel like I'm over extending my ability by getting top silver in my division, just waiting for the smack down bact to bronze to begin
I got trolled by a FruitDealer on NA the other week. 300apm the whole game, completely rolled me.
