Countering zerg cheese : hatch in main
I know scouting it is vital. I've been meeting this more frequently as protoss in ladder recently, and does anyone know how to deal with this if you scout it late?

2 cannons next to it (not right next to it so they can't see the cannons until the hatch finishes). time the cannons so they finish after the hatch finishes, otherwise he can just cancel hatch and you've wasted money on cannons.

don't scout it late. look around, especially when you know there's a drone walking around your base. If he's running around your base with a drone, just chase it with a probe.

watch a few replays of your games where the zerg plays normally and note when his natural hatchery goes down.
Then if you see his hatchery not down at the time you scout around your base and check his main and see if you can see where he is spending his money.
It won't be easy at first but you'll get to a point where you'll be able to say "hey his hatch is late so something is fishy" and you'll be able to check for different possibilities
As protoss you're fortunate that there is very few you have to account for

Throw down a forge as soon as you know it's coming and you only need one photon cannon up. To be honest, it should never work against a protoss.

kill it with fire. (or probes) (or cannons) and then just 4-gate or something straight after, they always lose to it.

I believe zergs only do proxy hatches when they see you FFE on maps like TDA
It works when you react to it wrongly
So with a forge already done just build 2 cannons to attack the hatch
If hes making a queen for tumor, the hatch will fall against 2 cannons.
If you only made 1 cannons, the hatch can produce a queen.
Dont forget to wall off after that as some zergs do zergling aggresion while you are over reacting to the proxy hatch
I believe destiny did it on stream once too where he placed his hatch on the protoss's FFE natural

I hit this type of cheese a lot on the NA ladder when I was in plat. It's really weird and never succeeded. Essentially they're riding on the fact you won't scout it.

As people have said, getting 1 cannon down pretty much kills it. If you can get a zealot out as soon as you scout it, that's really good too.

For me I always have 1 probe chase after his drone within my base

as a zerg player there is nothing worse than you hatch poping up at your natural, you think GREAT! now ill drone up !!

and then ...

all of a sudden you have 2 cannons blowing it up

this makes me a sad panda!

for all you protoss guys out there, this is a real sucsessfull delay for zerg and great to counter there macro!

I guess OP needs tips what to do when hatchery already popped w/o protoss scouting it for w/e reason. I've had it happen to me few times.

I found it's best to transfer probes over to natural (you should already be expanding), and let zerg waste minerals on army, queens and roaches inside your main. While he is at it, you wall of your natural ramp uphill. Put some cannons and get 4-gate. Leave just enough at your base to keep spines and other junk away, and send the rest to zerg's main. There will be exactly 0 defenses (save some lings). If your scouting probes is still alive, its insta win with proxy pylon. Otherwise, zerg will have xel'nagas, and will be prepared.

Scouting is very essential to prevent zerg cheez and can lead to your general advantage in many ways. if you see an early spawning pool down obviously means hes gonna try and do a 6pool/10pool etc. you know then to hopefully chrono your zealot out and block of the choke before zerglings meet. this scouting can be helpful because if you dont see an early pool you know hes generally gonna be fast expanding and with that probe you can try and deny his fast expansion by standing in the way and then eventually putting a pylong in the way. also you wanna make sure to get a sentry out as fast as you can as the early force field can help prevent a timed push into your base etc.

Honestly, if you see no natural at all, the zerg is going to either cheese you or all in you. Get prepared, wall off, make units, don't get supply blocked, etc. If you see a natural but it's after his pool, he still might attack you before the 7 minute mark. A lot of it has to do with what he sees in your main with his overlord. For example, if I see you FFE with my overlord, I might do an 11 pool and send 6 lings right away up your ramp to cause havoc on your worker line.
