Hey guys,
Since I've played Sc2 I've really enjoyed it. But not its starting to get quite frustrating... I am currently in Diamond league. I know it isn't a very high league and that's why I am asking for help.
My worst match up at the moment is my TvZ. I can win games where people do hellion marine timing pushes but I cant seem to beat the marine tank... I know everyone says that its easy for Zerg to hold off a marine tank build by Terran but I'm always losing to it in the late game...
Sometimes I lose to their timing attack but other times it just comes down to them owning me with tank n marines and some thors...
When I watch my most recent replay, I can see that I don't drone enough and also my macro is very off.. floating a lot of minerals... I think this is due to me not knowing when I can expand and when I can drone up.. Its hard to judge when a terran will move out because they can either stay back for a very long time or they can move out with a timing push and constant pressure but its really upto them how they dictate the course of the game and I'm stuck guessing...
When i get to tier 3 he backs away and defends until he has enough vikings to kill off my BL.. I didn't get infestors which was another mistake on my part but i was always scared of an impeding attack that I completely skipped them... And I can also see later on in the replay that i should have been much more agressive with my mutas.. but during the game its very difficult to see whether I can or not...
Please have a look at this replay and let me know how i can improve and also if any terrans out there willing to give some time to help me practice this match up I would greatly appreciate it~
Its coming to a point where more than 75% of my games vs terran I lose... haha T_T
Thanks for your time~
I'm not sure of how to put the replay in my post so I just got the link.. Sorry if this was the wrong way of doing it~
This is the link to the replay. http://www.sc2sea.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=485
I think what you said is what you should improve on.
I looked at the replay, and most of the time you weren't spending larva even after injecting. The macro cycle is to inject, check supply, make units, inject, check supply, units... and so on. You were injecting decently but you forgot to make units. In the beginning be sure to scout more. You defended the hellions very well, but you made too little drones after, which let to you only being at about 50 drones. You aim to have about 75 on three bases.
The reason you were floating on minerals was because of your forgetting to make units. Work on this aspect of your play and you will find that you will have a lot of units. Also, with a lot of minerals, get upgrades, more tech, and more units. Ling/Bling/Muta is a good combination against Marine/Tank/Thor, but it is only effective if you have enough to surround.
If the opponent has a lot of Vikings, tech switch to Ultras. With the new patch, although their pathing is still retarded, they are so good against thors, marines and tanks. Ultra/Ling/Infestor is a good combination because Fungal allows Ultras to catch up easily.
You lost a few bases to drops, and your reaction time was rather slow. Maybe it's because you didn't hotkey your lings, and only your mutas? Try hotkeying your lings and if you get dropped just press it and a move to save your base.
When you see your opponent going mech just drone up for a while because they will likely mass up a huge army before attacking. Expand more, get your economy up and then mass produce units, while harassing with Mutas. As you said you should've been more aggressive as there were a lot of spots where you could've killed things.
With regards to Muta control you shouldn't engage Marines again and again because your Mutas will die quickly and you don't want them. Instead use them to snipe vulnerable Tanks. At one point in the mid-game push he had only a few marines, and that is when you can go in with your lings and mutas to kill off the push.
thanks for the advice! I realize that I don't use my larva.. I think its because I'm afraid if I drone up at the wrong time then I wont have any larva to make an army.. and that leads me to having more minerals haha
AHHH I know my problems but its so hard to change haha but hearing someone else telling me is helping me reassure my weaknesses and will help me try to improve them~
Thanks again for your help I'll keep trying!
It's ok to save larvae, but if you do save them you have to immediately go scout to see what the opponent is doing. If he doesn't look like he's going to attack then immediately drone, and if he is then make units. But don't just sit there with all those larvae and be scared, because that means you'll never spend them.
