I'm a bronze Zerg who challenged a guy in one of the public chat channels. I beat him and found out afterwards he is a Diamond.
Now this is a little bit of a brag thread (and if you want to ban it then go ahead) but I need to know why I beat this guy who is clearly better than me so that I can do it again. It's a ZvT when I am Z. Any advice on what is right would be much appreciated so I can do it again.
From the looks of it, the Terran didn't pressure enough. He had hellions sitting at the watchtower for ages. Then he made the banshees focus the hydra den.
Also, he had 1500 minerals at the end.
I would say he's lucky to be a diamond.

Yup leagues just measure if you've improved from your previous games. It would be safe to say that a person who's been in bronze league for a while (say 1000 games... ever seen those?) would be more experienced than a person who has played 5 games and ended up in plat. the level of skill is different at the beginning, but people do catch up. It's the beauty of time.
Edit: The question is, would you have won if he hadn't just given up? Your roach attack at the end was very aggressive, what was the next move if he had fended it off better?

Continued my attack with the lings I had. If he had lifted off and tried to finish me with the banishes I would have expanded 3 times, queened up and tried to get hydras.

maybe it's his brother playing? it might not be the person who played to get to diamond league. It might be someone else worse who's just using his account.
I don't think he played at a diamond level at all I think he would have killed you if he went bio but he went for two tech heavy pressure attacks that did poorly with such an investment in tech with no base army you were able to roll over him once you cleaned up his banshees because he left them next to an overseer often not a good move. What you did right? you kept your money down. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you decided that you needed detection for banshees based on what he showed you because you didn't successfully scout much of anything.
I can't believe we have trolls like these. That was clearly a diamond level terran! Check his PLAYER CAM and play more OBS games before you start discrediting zanderax's win. I've joined at least 100 1v1 obs games and have seen hundreds of games on Xel Naga Caverns played by bronzies all the way up to masters. Yellow may have been overconfident when he chose to attack the hydra den rather than to fall back and try to get an econ advantage going seeing that Zanderax has been making offensive units rather than drones the whole time. I can see the reason behind attacking the hydra den seeing that he commited a lot of resources into the banshees and he doesn't really have a proper counter for mass hydra at that time. He was unlucky that his helion drop was spotted and that was good reaction from Zanderax. I'd say that the number of roaches caught the terran by surprise and the ineffectiveness of the helion drop pulled the game heavily into Zanderax's favour. The hydra den worked brilliantly in this case because a spire would have taken longer to complete and the banshees would have wiped out most of his roaches and lings had he waited for the spire. I'd say that is was good reaction from you, Zanderax, which is how zerg is meant to be played. As for what you can take in from this game.... Well, roach hydra works in this scenario but you wouldn't go with this unit composition against most terrans. I liked how you pulled all your drones from your main to your natural where the bulk of your army is when the medivac was spotted. Also, massing queens when you saw the banshee earlier into a hydra den. That was really good. The push timing was excellent seeing that the terran had committed so much resources into his banshees and helion that he wouldn't have much of an army in his base. Good gamesense, Zanderax and don't let these trolls make you feel bad. That was an excellent game and you truly deserved the win.
Also to note is that only FOUR people downloaded the replay. It'll be 5 now including myself.
And to those people saying OMG he's not diamond... Blah blah blah! This is how some diamonds out there play whether you like it or not. He's not a master league player for a reason. He made a few errors here and there but Zanderax did play well. If you reckon you can beat this diamond terran, I'd like to see you back those words up and play him yourself. It's not uncommon for bronze players to OCCASIONALLY beat diamond players. If they play extremely well, they are definitely able to beat diamond players.

you played well, but his style was a very allin, focusing on blue flame hellion and then going to 2 port banshee. You handled the situation rather well and with him faillng to macro, having around 1500 minerals at the end of the game were able to push and win.
Im not surprised a style like that is in diamond, because i play terran myself and a blue flame hellion drop sometime can end the game when vs'n lower league players let alone a 2 port banshee follow up.
Keep playing standard and youll get used to being able to crush ppl like this
Spotting the hellion drop, getting a nice amount of roaches out to stop the hellions, and putting hydra den down when u saw banshees were what you did right. In this game the hydras were the perfect choice as he was doing 2 port, but in general I'd try and avoid doing that as most terrans build 1-2 banshees just for harrass and building a hydra den would be an over-reaction. You need to sac an ovie in his base to get more info as to what you should do. You certainly played a lot better than I would expect of bronze, but at the same time the terran used a pretty bad strat.
You beat him because you played better by the sounds of it. Leagues don't always show your skill level if you wanna rank up just constantly do the same thing that wins like 4 gating and you too can be a pokemon master!!
If your having fun in bronze thats far more important than winning.
Well its very common to find really bad diamond Terran and protoss in Diamond because zerg's are forced to push themselves to beat stuff which require 30 APM to rape a zerg that simply failed to prepare. Zerg players are punished so hard for the smallest of mistakes we have to learn to try a lot harder where as terran and protoss don't have that.
Be expecting to see a lot more of them because fact of the matter is the ladder is almost random in terms of who is in what league.
Could also be technical problems or having a bad day as I have beaten wish and I am only plat ^^
