in order to compress the arguments into short clips, so they could run other news items that would support their sponsors and backers, they relied on soundbytes.

Politics in australia is nothing but them trying to spout what ever soundbite they think will go more viral and further their agenda.

She led him with 3 questions detailing where he's grossly miss-informed the public for his agenda and pulled him up short everytime he was wrong. then moves to the question "are politicians playing fast and loose with the truth" to which he responds that julia gillard is, before she pulls him up with the fact that every question he'd answered was completely made up bullshit.

Now lets consider 'abbott the idiot' who everyone goes on about as a total idiot unable to manage Australia's economy, well at least Abbott has an economics degree unlike the treasurer who only has one in the arts of all places.. ABC is hands down one of the best tv stations in the world, and i ask you, what do you think is the ABC's core age/sex demographic and then answer me again whether you think it panders to the left.

The point is that Abbots entire political philosophy is buzzwords, catch phrases which can be quickly recorded and played over commercial radio and TV in 5 second clips, only thing is 95% of the time he's talking out his ass or not letting the truth spoil a good story.

For instance this constant attacks about boat people. People with nothing trying to seek ASYLUM in our country, something that they are more then legally able to do. Then we accept a pitiful amount compared to other major county's in the world and send them to places we're they're legally not seen as human being's because we wanna act tough.
all the while ignoring the fact that 95% of all people here (that actually come here illegally) COME IN ON PLANES on visas and NEVER GO HOME.

Yeah classic Tony Abbot, doesn't understand basic finance. The reason that the carbon tax increases over years is to deal with inflation, the present value of a tax in 5 years is less than the value given in 5 years time. The increases in the tax are actually quite small.

The problem with Australian politics nirvAnA is the amount of "spin" that politicians put on their arguments/responses. Its very hard to get a straight up detailed response on policy, since most of the politicians generally don't know what they are actually talking about. This interview was a case of that with Tony Abbot having a bunch of information in front of him that he probably hadn't read before the interview and certainly didn't understand. The opposition in Australia has always blatantly tried to block policy for the sake of blocking it, they just ride off public opinion and generally make it difficult for the current government. That being said I'm not a fan of Julia Gillard (the PM) either or the majority of the labor parties policies. I just vote for Independants now, they do the same job that the opposition party is meant to be doing (keep the current government accountable) and due to most specializing in a certain area are able to give detailed, analytical responses with regards for policy rather than getting some minion to write them up a fact sheet to read off.

In australia that feels particularly valid right now since there's two major parties and they both seem sucky, Liberals seem sucky because they're being led by an incredibly pessimistic and unintelligent dickwad (abbot), and Labor is being led by someone whose having an awfully hard time convincing people she's not a ******* useless backstabber (Gillard).

Pretty much, Abbott spends an awful lot of time pooping on Labor with extreme negativity and when he's caught out on it it's fun to watch him squirm.
