[Spoilers] Legacy of the Void campaign

Great suggestion by eddie to create a thread for us that want to discuss the campaign.

BEWARE, Do not read this thread if you do not want spoilers.

Honestly i feel like i need to express my sadness after seeing what happened to that main character.
Those of you that have played some of the campaign should know what i'm talking about.

RIP

How does this turn of events make you guys feel? I am actually quite upset by it. That was probably my favourite character in the whole sc universe.

That Protoss base on the left is super tough to break in the 3rd mission (hard difficulty)

I found it very hard to bite my tongue when someone who is downloading the game said "I can't wait I sware to god if a main character dies straight up like tasadara or the profit I'ma not gunna be happy".

Surely he is going to uninstall after the second mission.

for a thread that said spoilers possible, everyone is trying their best to not spoil it lol

that aside, I'm finally stumped with a mission (mission 10) where our heroes meet up inside the you--know-what. I reach one crystal barely then see a whole massive army at I assume, the path to crystal #2 on the left. any tips? (e.g. units to make; should I go for the crystal one the top side instead etc etc)

I'm guessing this is one mission I just cant dt stalker through it :/ (and I was having so much fun just sticking to stalkers and dts)

+ [Realtalk POST EPILOGUE MEGA SPOILERS] +
Honestly I found most of the campaign really appealing, especially at the beginning where the story seemed to be taking an interesting turn. This continued on with more cool plot directions, especially the inclusion of Alarak who is basically a mega Sith badass. However, this took a turn for the worse at the beginning of the epilogue. After having a giant pain in the arse finishing the last level which is really difficult on the higher difficulty levels, and seeing the protoss finally free themselves after all the crap you had to go through in order to do it, Kerrigan shows up and is like sup lets go invade the void.

When you get in there, is when it starts becoming utter bullshit. Hey guys, remember that protoss guy you all loved in brood war and was a super mega badass when he crashed his carrier into the new overmind. Surprise! He was actually a xel'naga all along who hid himself EleGiggle 4Head. Then you have to go through all the emotional stereotypical sappy crap with Kerrigan having to be turned into a xel'naga in order to kill Amon. From there we do some more crap and finally kill him, and then Kerrigan peaces out and a timeskip occurs. Now this is where it really ticked me off. You go through all of this crap, and then hey, guess what, Kerrigan and Jim just decide to peace out at the end of the game. And that the end. All of the people you've been emotionally invested in this whole time don't have some amazing end or anything. Kerrigan literally just walks into the same WoL bar looking like oldschool Kerrigan and they peace out never to be seen again. The epilogue was just so rushed and boring, with the end of the story not being satisfying in the slightest as the end to such an amazing trilogy. RANT OVER

EDIT: Also Stukov is amazing what a legend holy crap fam

Also the Spear of Adun is actually the coolest thing ever as a base, like dear god such hype

I don't know how to use spoilers.

Here is a picture link. It made me cry.

Haven't done the Epilogue yet because I spent 2 1/2 hours failing the last mission and I need sleep.

So so so brutal. Is there even a composition that doesn't just die near the end? I beat it in the end with mass carriers and building gateways/cannons just to delay the inevitable siege. I pulled probes to distract the immortals and save the shard when it was on sub 10% hp. Nailbiter and soulcrusher.

Spear of adun is op though. The amount of times I used Fenix/the other abilities to kill stuff as my base was dying on the otherside of the map (Completely cheesed the carrier mission with 1 phoenix and spear of adun).

Tassadar himself wasn't a Xel'Naga in disguise, the stupid ghost Tassadar we've been wanting an explanation for for 5 years was a ghost. The Xel'Naga used his form to get Zeratul to listen.

I am very happy about that personally, Ghost Tassadar was ******* retarded. There's a lot I'd like to chat about but I need to kinda gather my thoughts I guess.

EDIT: My thoughts, cross-posted from Team Liquid

+ [Spoiler] +
Alright, just finished and I have to say it's probably the best campaign of the three. The difficulty was really good. WoL only had 2-3 difficult missions and HotS was a complete joke to steam roll. LotV campaign had a few missions that took me many tries and the majority of them took me at least two.

I really like the raised stakes compared to the other two, every mission feels super important and like you can't waste any time.

- Alarak was ******* excellent. I knew right away it was John De Lancie playing him and god damn can that man act. Fantastic.

- The Fenix thing made me legitimately SO angry at first because he was my favourite character and they brought him back for no reason except they didn't and it was a mess. Like, "HEY GUYS IT'S FENIX EXCEPT IT ISN'T. His new voice absolutely pales in comparison to his old one and he seems considerably less badass. However, I was glad to see the character arc he underwent, complete with getting a new name. Overall the character was a positive even if his introduction felt like a really dumb way to be like "NOSTALGIA 4 U OLD BLOKES ITS FENIX"

- Zeratul's death made me feel nothing. In BW he was awesome but in SC2 he was lame spooky mysterious prophecy man and I'm glad he's out of the way so Artanis could be the focus.

- Been waiting five years to find out what the **** was up with that spooky mysterious "oooOOoooOOOO I'M A GHOOOOOST!" Tassadar shit. As it turns out, he's dead and it was a sneaky Xel'Naga trick! This made me so happy, Ghost Tassadar was stupid. At least they finally explained it, and it also explains why Tassadar doesn't sound like he did in BW/Heroes!

- Epilogue campaign tied things up nicely. I loved playing as the Terran and Zerg again. Our boy Jimmy Raynor got one last chance to shine, speaking of which. Dat ending. I liked it. A bit sad that Jimmy disappeared but we know that where ever he is, he's happy.

- I liked the pictures + text ending. It reminds me of the BW ending which I loved, which was just text listing the fate of each character with one of the Protoss tracks (that I have mad nostalgia for) playing.

- Overall, this made the storyline really improve. It's clear now that WoL and HotS were fairly minor players, merely setting the pieces in place for LotV. If I had played them all at once I would like the SC2 storyline a lot more.

- Really good, I am happy.

EDIT: I marked the **** out for Stukov killing Duran. I'm glad they finally acknowledged their history directly instead of with a hint. I'm glad Duran showed up again because his death at Kerrigan's hands felt anti climactic. This was the death he needed.

I LOVED the lotv campaign. Epilogue was an afterthought in comparison, I'd have preferred it released later with more missions in it and an ending that made sense rather than appeals to nostalgia.

Thoroughly enjoyed the campaign. Thought it was much more engaging then HotS.

Did anyone else think difficulty level is much harder than HotS? I struggled a fair bit on Hard, especially on "Salvation" and one of the other missions I can't remember the name of. The one with the Terrazine? (but then I'm bad)

I have to say story wise this was most definitely my favourite of the campaigns. Plenty of highs and lows (RIP T_T) and the gameplay added heaps to the enjoyment. After I went on TL and found out that sair/DT is broken the last level was a walk in the park on brutal, wonder if that would have helped with the other missions? Maybe that'll be for an achievement run.

Overall, loved it

I begged my lord and saviour Lawrence "The Campaign Master" Ho for tips on how to succeed on and ultimately conquer the last level. When all hope seemed lost, it was thanks to his great wisdom and courage that I was able to finally complete the mission and see the end of this epic story.

I have built a shrine in worship of his holiness and pledge to sacrifice my ladder opponents to him daily in order to appease his just anger. I sincerely thank him for his benevolence and pray that he may continue to take mercy on me in my ongoing journey towards starcraft mastery.

That's not what happened... It was just a ghost/vision that the xel'naga Ouros used so that Zeratul would understand and listen to what he had to say and believe him.

Overall this campaign was fantastic imo. The difficulty was actually brutal, level design was great and Artanis is a bad ass. I can't wait for the DLC missions that will be released and possibly a whole new story in the starcraft universe.

p.s Phasesmith Karax was awesome, best new character

Great campaign. Having never really played the SC1 campaigns it was great to finally get to know the Protoss. I love all the different factions.

The Epilogue did feel weird though. It sucks that your Spear of Adun preferences don't even carry over and there are is no out-of-mission stuff.

The campaign was very fun, in true protoss fashion I went blink stalkers every mission. I liked the ending, protoss has always been my favourite race in the lore because I love the science and technology of sci-fi.

Slcn's campaign coach, Lawrence, also helped me beat the last mission in 2 goes. Secret is that shield batteries are the best thing in the game and voidrays zap things into none existence.

Overall it was mostly fun, coming from someone that didn't get past 3-4 missions on either of the other campaigns because they were boring.

Also I really liked fenix's story arc, this campaign got so deep. Asking what it meant to be alive, was cool.

Currently mad at the 2nd mission in epilogue but that aside, thought I throw a question out there ^^

Which mission(s) or part(s) of the campaign was your favourite (most satisfying when completed or other reasons)OR you felt was the hardest?

I tried the second mission of the epilogue three times now, but I suck at Terran and am not sure how to handle it on brutal so have temporarily given up and am far too stubborn to lower the difficulty.

As for satisfying to complete, the last mission in the main story when I finally did it after failing way more than I'd like to admit was a literal fistpump moment.
