Thx for posting this, i personally dont agree with the new 1v1 maps. They took out almost all the 1v1 maps, (not that i liked them) and in turn they only added 4-player maps. They at least should have added another 1 or 2 2-player maps. I dont really care bout 2v2 or 4v4.

My Thoughts?

1v1

I'm sad to see Lost Temple go, it's arguably the most famous Starcraft map ever. Sure it's not the best but it has history...

Steppes of War I think everyone is glad to see go.

Jungle Basin I didn't mind but then again, I don't play Zerg

Shakuras Plateau I think is the biggest disappointment. I think it was one of the best maps in the pool, I always had nice macro games on it. I would have preferred to see Delta Quadrant and it's rotational imbalances disappear instead of Shakuras.

Blistering Sands I didn't mind as I played Jinro Style: walling of the choke at the natural and pushing out through the back door. It did cause some nightmares and was practically impossible to take a third on. Understandable I guess. I'm sure this was a nightmare for Zergs too. I don't think I have lost a game to a Zerg on Blistering Sands in a long while.

Backwater Gulch IMO is a horrible map. It's rotational imbalance is worse than Delta Quadrant. If you spawn close positions one player gets a third, the other doesn't. Not a good map at all IMO.

Slag Pit looks fun although I don't think the centre is going to be used very often at all. I think this map will play similar to Metalopolis.

Shattered Temple is Blizzards rebalanced version of Lost Temple. Looks good. I'm sure it will keep all the Zurgies happy.

Typhon Peaks looks interesting. I have never played on it or seen a game played on it however the 3rd in the low ground looks hard to hold.

2v2

The entire purpose of 2v2's is to combine your armies together. As such I'm not a fan of maps where the mains are far apart. I'll probably vote Gutterhulk down.The rest just look like any other 2v2 maps to me. I'll have to burn through a few games this-afternoon.

4v4

Hopefully this new map will lead to some nice big juicy macro games ^__^

I think that the community as a whole are bugging blizzard to incorporate more macro-oriented maps (That's the impression I get from TL anyway) I think that's why they have opted for more 4-spawn maps. But yes I agree, It would have been nice to see another 2-spawn map. The only two left are Xel Naga Caverns and Scrap Station. Xel Naga is my favourite map (I'm sure many others share this sentiment with me) but Scrap Station I have thumbed down currently, TvT gives me nightmares on this map. Will probably un-thumb it once I get a few more practice games under my belt.

Yeah, people have been giving Blizzard nightmares, yelling at them to incorporate macro-oriented maps but 4-player macro maps differ from 2-player macro maps in the sense of how many expansions and spawn positions.

Also, i think that even though people want the macro-maps, there should be 1,just 1 map like steppes where macro-games are denied just to mix it up a bit, force people to play differently.

Yeah, as someone knew to the RTS genre it was surprising to me just how much I had to alter my play-style for close spawn maps. Steppes of War almost felt like an entirely different game. But yes it would be nice to still have at least one map there with that set up for those who are interested, those who don't like it could just veto?

@Crankenstein-exactly, 1 map is all the game needs, Just have it idk for tourney's in the map pool just so its not the same old,same old. Old maps had a lot of variety, even if they were not liked.

Y u no remove delta quadrant???

Y u no use gsl maps instead of making your own shit ones making it really difficult for tournaments to chose between your shitty ones or gsl's decent ones where people will struggle to practice on them??

Will be interesting to play the new rehashed version of Lost Temple, don't like the looks on some of these maps - I really liked Shakuras too, oh well time will tell how these maps pan out.

so true. and with LT removed there goes a big chunk of history, thought they might just removed the cliffs or something at the natural and it becomes perfectly playable zvt
