Hey everyone,
I've been a semi active member of the sc2sea community for a few months now. I've played in two bsg's and a few other tourney's too.
I feel like it's time I gave something back to the site, so I was wondering how everyone would feel if, before the gl hf of each of my ladder matches I would paste a phrase out advertising sc2sea.com. I was thinking something like:
If you want to meet other SEA members and join an active local server community, come to www.sc2sea.com. It's very friendly and everyone from bronze to masters is welcome.
I'm a silver btw, though I expect to be promoted to gold sometime before april and maybe platinum soon after (not bragging, just judging ladder match-ups). Hopefully Nirvana and the other admins see this and let me know if they approve or is there's something I can add/fix. Overall, thank you to everyone who helps support this website, you guys rock :-)
It's a nice thought, but honestly I think it might do more harm than help. People will think you're some kind of scammer, or that you have a forum that's desperate for members. Either way, people might just get plain annoyed. You might also attract unsavoury trolls and very immature people.
Of course, you can always engage in friendly banter with your opponent after many ladder matches, and it'd be better to bring it up in a casual manner, in an established conversation, with a down-to-earth person who isn't a total dickbag.
Many ladder matches? I think I've played the same person twice only a few times in 300 odd games. And sea already has trolls and inactive members. I just feel that awareness could be raised for the community. I only found out about this site through searching the tl pages for sea only tourneys, which most players won't do.
I meant "many" as in a lot of people will be happy to have a chat after a game - particularly once you're out of Bronze. Not all, but quite a few, I've found.
If we already have trolls and inactives, we don't need MORE trolls and inactives.
I'm not adverse to raising awareness about the site - I think it's a great idea. But perhaps being a tad more subtle than copypasta-ing a message into chat in every ladder match is required.
As a side note, I came across SC2SEA while looking for people to practice with. If people want to be a part of a community, most often they will seek it out themselves. Of course, giving them a helping hand is always great.
Theres so many people out there on bnet who stay in their own little world without going to any community websites. I think letting these people know that theres a site out there for them is a great idea! Just something short and clean BEFORE the game starts and your message seems good as it is .
If its after the game and u win, will leave quite a bad taste in their mouth but then again they might forget what u posted at the start. lol i dunno!
Yeah, that was what I was trying to avoid. I think before the game starts will prevent any kind of bm feelings. And afterwards they can always ask me about it. If they don't rage at losing of course.
I think saying stuff before the game starts is cool, but JPMoney's idea is pretty cool too, as are his other ideas, cept the part where he gets totally countertrolled by Jaczie in that other thread.
Anyhow, nirvana being the moderate moderator and a voice of reason is always a yardstick to whats decent behaviour. Cept for kelly/zie, could you find anyone else that would list nirvana as their arch-nemesis? Hmm.
But anyway, a tasteful, short and sweet. "check out sc2sea.com, there's forums, and lots of other community stuff like tournaments/prizes etc. and gl hf btw"
man i don't know, some permutation of it would be cool, as long as it doesn't sound like a porn paysite, i'm sure most people won't be creeped out by it, hell sc2sea.com sounds innocent enough.

Life is short, why waste it on sleep.
Sounds more like annoying advertising rather than clever advertising. I feel as if there is a cleverer way of delivering the message.
To be honest, if you REALLY want to advertise, just send the occasional advertisement message into the race strategy channels. The same way that people advertised clans in broodwar a fair bit (And still do).
