So for anyone else out there with or with out the disorder known as Adult ADHD/ADD i have a question. does taking the Stimulants (ritalin/dexam) be considered a performance enhancing Drug in the SC2 and or other pro games lol XD. Since the design of them is to open up your nervous system ALOT!
Since being diagnosed and taking the meds for the disorder my KDR in bf3 has gone through the roof and ive even started playing around with zerg and it seems relatively easy with keeping up with the injects on time hehe
so anyone got any thoughts?
i know all my uni mates are trying to buy the drugs off me but its a controlled substance and i dont really feel like going to jail! lol
Well first things first, don't distribute that stuff. Because that would just ruin everyone's day down the track.
Secondly, Ritalin's a hell of a drug.
I would count it as a enhancing drug seeing as I've given the drug a brief read and it apparently does stimulate your nervous system by a long shot, much better than coffee or something.
However, I am not sure with your case, since you have to take it medically. If you weren't taking it medically then I'd be saying it is just performance enhancing and it's unfair, but in your case I wouldn't be certain at all. I'm leaning towards the fact that you have to take it medically so it's just fine.
I haven't read through much of the thread yet but it did give me an idea on what it does, which gave me a quick idea of how I think I should view it. Have a read through it and hopefully you find your answer there.

Yea its not as easy as just going to the doctors and get a script in australia. but it has definitely improved my quality of life in general. not just gaming :]

Yeah it definitely wouldn't be. I presume it must've been quite a process for you to be medically legal to take it.
Sounds like it's very beneficial to your everyday life, that's good.
But wouldn't there be some adverse side effects though?

Ive heard taking ADHD medication is quite common among the top level FPS Console guys, the medication helps with concentration and allegedly allows for more accurate movements when using control sticks. Currently (as far as Ive ben told) there is no regulation of the use of performance drugs / drugs in general (hell one of the best in SEA is openly a recreational drug user).
I would predict however that the esports scene is not far off having regulations implemented!

[07-10, 22:00] PiG Unfortunately I'm incredibly lazy so most of my video footage is just me and iaguz in bed
being 90kg the physical side affects include and not limited to increased heart rate and persperation, loss of appetite which in turn causes rapid weight loss i was 95kg when first started, ive lost a little strength. deadlifts went from 200kg max to 190 now because of the weight loss, has caused a bit of anxiety and i get the daily 4pm headache when the drugs wears off.
but its improved Gym endurance, work and the relationship with the missus a great deal as i was always a very disorganised forgetful and selfish to be honest :/ lol

Americans can get it prescribed by a general GP, Aussies have to go through 3 different authorities to have them authorised.
I don't think you can ban a prescription medication. People will use them as performance enhancers if they want, whether or not they actually get an advantage. I guess you could look to sports leagues around the world (like cricket) to see. I don't know that you will necessarily improve your performance at SC2 any more than you would from a similarly administered placebo though.
Ritalin is generally the more effective treatment for ADHD, moreso than any type of dexam - doesn't necessarily mean it's the most effective way to enhance your performance though.
It's definitely a lot harder to get ADHD diagnosis these days than it was in the 90s, when every kid who spoke out of turn in class was given a dexam prescription
EDIT: By the way, excellent topic, one I have had a lot of interest in. Thanks for posting it!

I reckon it could help. I know for a fact that when i have something like Mesomorph/Razer 8 or some form of gym pre-workout, i find it alot easier to ladder for a solid amount of time. They too have stimulants that work on your CNS (central nervous system) and stimulate blood flow, yadayada. I just thought one day i wonder if i'll play any better with some pre-workout in me.
I can't really confirm if i played better but i certainly did feel more focused, better mood and was able to grind out 10-15 games and not feel as tired as i normally would. Then tried to workout and had no buzz left...FAIL.
