After 5 weeks of action, the first ever Fusion Slug clan tournament has come to the end. I hope everyone had as much fun competing in the event, as I had organising and running it.
8 clans took part ; Fusion Slugs, ToR, TCP, FaDe, IXL, QED, mGG and Team Night. But before we look at how each team went, lets look at some other interesting stats.
142 games of Starcraft were played in total. 78 of these featured atleast one Terran, while 74 of these featured atleast one Protoss and atleast one Zerg featured in 73 of them. We had 9 games featuring random players.
The most frequent match up was ZvP (32 games), followed by TvP (28), TvT (24) and TvZ (23). We only had 14 ZvZ's and 12 PvPs. Our random games were 4 RvZ, 3 RvT and 2 RvP. We never had a Random vs Random.
We had 9 maps in our map pool. I was unable to track down the maps for 26 games, but for the rest the most common map used was Daybreak (25 games). Our two new maps were only chosen twice each but had more games in total for being the starting map (twice for Muspelheim and once for Frigid Pass).
Daybreak (25)
Ohana (20)
Cloud Kingdom / Antiga Shipyards (14)
Metropolis (13) - 4 as starting map
Muspelheim (10) - 7 as starting map
Entombed Valley (9) - 4 as starting map
Shakuras Plateau (6)
Frigid Pass (5) - 3 as starting map
After all that is probably time to talk about how each team went. I have put these inside spoiler to reduce the length of the post.
The Fusion Slugs were the champions of the FSCT1 but thats not to say they had the tournament all their own way. Their lowest moment was round 1, were new clan Team Night burst on the scene with a 5-1 thumping. Since that point though the Slugs won every series, even if all of them were close (5-3, 5-3, 5-3 and 5-4). Overall the team had just a 54% win rate, which is equal 2nd highest.
Ace Player: FSBattleToast/moofang. Both protoss players have a 4-1 record and were the key finishes for the side, playing in the winning match 3 times between them.
BSG Stars: Terran pair Kezz and Eagle were the big reason why the slugs got so far. Eagle went 5-3 and Kezz 4-2 and both put the team in good situations for their Platinum players to finish the task.
Team Night came in as unknown clan and right from the start showed how strong they were with a 5-1 win over the slugs. They followed that up with a strong 5-4 win over QED, but then lost to mGG 5-3 in the final group game. They reacted to that with a 5-1 thumping of ToR to make the grand final against the Fusion Slugs. They only just missed out on the big prize, but proved they will be a force in the future. They also had the highest win rate
Ace Player: TNRaptor, with an impressive 11-2 win rate and a 4-kill and two 3 kills, including the 3 kill in the grand final which almost gave Team Night the game.
BSG Stars: TNFate and faithhunter were the main support to TNRaptor, with a 4-4 record to Fate and 3-2 record to faithhunter. Fate's achievement is more impressive when you consider he plays random. Terran faithhunter was the only player besides Raptor, to win a game for Team Night in the grand final.
FaDe will feel some redemption from the result, after not making the SEACL2 Tier 5 playoffs. They had a very strong tournament, starting with a 5-2 win over IXL (featuring a ChaynesOre all kill) and then a 5-4 win over ToR. The next two weeks though were a different story, going down 5-3 to TCP and then 5-3 to the Fusion Slugs in the Semi Final. They faced ToR once again in the 3rd/4th playoff match, where they yet again pulled off a 5-4 victory thanks to a 3 kill from FaDeWelshy.
Ace Player: ChaynesOre is a name that started to fill other teams with fear as the tournament progressed. An all kill in round 1, was followed with strong results in the other two group games. In the end he went 10-2 and got the game winning kill 3 times. Yes each time FaDe won in the tournament, ChaynesOre was the one who got that winning kill!
BSG Stars: Whilst ChaynesOre was BSG, he hit platinum and above for most of the tournament. Most of FaDe's other wins came from their platinums.. But two guys consistenly went out and played good games, without luck. Terran FaDerezyn and Zerg FaDeMrbadass, played each week and really encompass the spirt of the BSG players in this tournament. So thankyou and well done to both of you!
ToR will probably be happy with a top 4 position, after being worried they might struggle to field a team each week! Their group stage saw really close games, with a 5-4 win over TCP, being followed by a 5-4 loss to FaDe. The game against IXL was called off, so they got to the winner semis by count back. From there they were handed a 5-1 loss vs Team Night, thanks to Raptor and in the 3rd/4th playoff they again went down to FaDe in the ace game 5-4. If they had managed to turn around those two FaDe games, instead they might of taking 1st or 2nd, but thats how close this tournament has been.
Ace Player: ToRozliam was the best performer, with a 6-3 record. The now Diamond Zerg, manage to win games over multiple weeks to help put ToR in strong positions inlcuding a strong 4 kill in week against TCP.
BSG Stars: The problem ToR had was mainly there wasnt a huge amount of support for ToRozliam. However Protoss Zanderax and Terran ToRBobby did manage to take two kills each and put ToR into the position to get to the ace match.
Another team who will be pleased with the tournament. They started off with two losses to QED and the Fusion Slugs, which put them out of the semi final race. But they bounced back the week after, with 5-3 win over group winners Team Night. They continued this run in the loser semi final bracket, beating TCP 5-2 and then QED 5-2 to take home 5th. They have found some great protoss players, mentioned below, who should really help spearhead their next SEACL chances.
Ace Player: Late signing Protoss mGGZeratul managed an all kill vs TCP to get them to the 5th/6th match and ended with a 5-1 record. Tiger was the main closer though, another protoss, going 3-0 in the tournament, with 2 game winning kills.
BSG Stars: Gold Protoss duo mGGNemesis (4-1) and Maverick (4-2) made a huge difference to the mGG side, setting up Tiger for those ending kills and taking down some key opposition players along the way.
6th spot is not where I expected QED to finish and probably isnt where they deserve to finish. In the end they had a real tough draw and a bit of bad luck, facing some of the strongest teams in the competition when they had their best teams to choose from. A 5-2 win over mGG, was followed by a narrow 5-4 loss to eventual group winners Team Night. They then faced the eventual winners in week 3, going down 5-3. This put them in the loser semi final bracket, and they bounced back with a 5-1 win over IXL, but faced a much stronger mGG side in the 5th/6th playoff and couldnt hold them off.
Ace Player: QED actually had many players take wins, so its really hard to pick an ace player. Their platinum graded players shared the games, with protoss QEDFridge and Attzy both taking two wins.
BSG Stars: This is where QEDs strength came through, with Silver Terran goste managing to go 5-4. Gold Terran QEDBloodmyst also had a strong tournament going 4-2, including getting a game winning kill.
I mentioned at the start of the tournament that TCP were one of the favourites in SEACL Tier 5 but failed to live up to that. Again its seems a similar story, with a very strong team on paper and some really close games just not going their way. A 5-4 loss to ToR was followed by a 5-3 loss to IXL. Redemption was made with a 5-3 win over group winners FaDe. However a very strong mGG side sent them to the wooden spoon battle with IXL. But TCP regrouped and took it 5-1, to avoid last place.
Ace Player: Platinum zerg Eros was one of their key players, going 3-3 in the tournament, which saw their platinum level players struggle.
BSG Stars: TCP did have some great BSG players however. Terran kERo went 5-4 and opened a few times and hit Platinum by league end. Silver Zerg Redux went 3-2 as well putting TCP in some great positions and will be key in the next SEACL in T5.
This tournament was a huge learning experience for IXL, in their debut in the SEA clan scene. Their tournament was hinded by some mistakes, such as submitting players too late and in round 1 they didnt realise it was a best of 9 matches, not best of 9 players and lost 5-2. In week 2 they bounced back with an impressive 5-3 win over TCP and had their last game abandoned. In the loser bracket semi finals they went down 5-1 to a fired up QED and then had to face TCP in a rematch. This time they couldnt hold them back, losing 5-1. Their side though is a lot stronger then the results show and they now have a taste of how strong the SEA clan scene is.
Ace Player: Protoss player IXLCircuit managed a 5-2 record, thanks to an all kill of TCP in week 2. Whilst he lost first game in the loser semi final and 7th/8th playoff, he showed enough in that week to make the other clans weary of facing him.
BSG Stars: Protoss Adun was the only BSG player who managed to take more the one win. The wins came against FaDe in round 1, where he setup the team with a 2-1 lead (only going down to ChaynesOre!) and if not platinum, will lead the charge for IXL into the next SEACL.
I want to extent a huge thankyou to Asrathiel for stepping in to admin in Week 3 at the last moment and to Asrathiel and Suipr for taking the starting player for the Slugs opponents each week.
Also a huge thankyou to the casters who showed many of the games. Mox & Hellee, ToRVenom & Breadfan, QEDPostage, The IXL Casting team, TNFate, Deadpixel, Mattyb21 and Mirth, Pulstura and anyone else who casted and I didnt catch! Thankyou!
Thankyou to SC2SEA for letting me run the tournament on these forums and for their support in getting it done.
Thankyou to all the team captains, it was a pretty smooth tournament, with only a small blip. You guys put in so much effort and deserve a lot of praise for what you do.
To all the players who took part, thankyou for giving it a go, playing great games and doing so with minimal BM. I hope you all had a great time.
To anyone who promoted the games, watched the games and talked about them, a big thankyou as well! I hope we gave you something interesting to watch
I'd really appreciate it if people took the time to let me know their thoughts on the tournament. What went well. What didnt. What would you change. How were the new maps? You can PM me if you prefer.
I plan to do this again in the future, so lets work together to make something even better!

Was an honour to be involved in this tournament. Really enjoyed casting it! Was really well run (credit to BenAD and Asrathiel) and had some really good games in it! Can't wait for another!
Once again thanks for having organised this and hence the great experience that followed plus all the great writeups. Was practically delighted when I saw the link and quickly jumped to read this conclusion. *I just like to read and your writeups have been most interesting *
Terran ToRBobby did manage to take two kills each and put ToR into the position to get to the ace match.
wooo got a mention just wish i could of played more games
anyway nice tournament and would love to see another one in the future big props to the organisers

Thought the tournament was extremely smooth-sailing. Only tiny complaint I could rack my brain for was the occasional last-minute scramble for casters - and we still did eventually get casters every time at least for our games.
Was awesome. Really delighted to have been able to close out a couple matches for the team, even though I was so nervous and apprehensive about playing x)
