Yes... the word exists in the Oxford English Dictionary. When it comes to playing StarCraft II there are many different levels of noob ranging from the experienced uninformed gamer (probably plays FPS games casually) to the person who has never played a game in their life. The former has relatively good motor skills and picks up concepts relatively easily when they're explained to them... the latter does not. This article will focus on how to teach the latter how to play StarCraft II.
We all know them (and they're probably your girlfriend; not being sexist here but... statistics). One way or another they have managed to scrounge together the courage to try this game and they're looking to have fun. I bolded the last word for a reason. When a person thinks of a game they think fun, game = fun, and indeed it should be. Like any drug it's important to get the subject hooked first, if they enjoy their first experience in StarCraft II then they will want to come back and play it on their own accord. If they do not enjoy the game then it's likely that they will never want to play it again and convincing them otherwise will be the hardest thing in the world. So amusingly enough Lesson 1 is for the teacher (you).
Lesson 1: Becoming a good teacher:
To be a good teacher you will need patience, this is going to take some time... a lot of time... a very long time. You will need to be supportive, this is their first real game so celebrate their every achievement. Do NOT be patronising, what may be exceedingly simple to you can be complicated to those who have never played a game (outside of iOS) in their life. You will also need to be patient, they're going to get a hold of some key concepts really quickly and others not so quickly. OK now handsy... this is called teaching for a reason, not do it for them... keep your hands to yourself.
