Smiley: Wink WCS SC2 Tournament

Hi guys (im sorry if this is in the wrong spot) i am organising a 3 day tournament in sydney to be held at the horden pavilian at this stage it is just a SC2 event however i am open to other games providing the gaming comunity suports it, I have a fair bit of interest from some rather big names in the gaming industry (not going to mention them right now) but before any of us commit to this event we are turning to the gaming comunity to mesure
1. Support from the gaming comunity and
2. what is it you want from a gaming tournament

the event layout is 3 days with a winners and loosers bracket (yep that familiar layout you see alot)

so please reply to this thread if you would be interested and what you would consider a reasonable entree fee

Regards

I can tell you know that 3 days is too long (unless your talking about some serious cash involved like 5 figures)

IF the prizes are good and the rego fee is cheap it is easy to get 100+ people to attend a Starcraft II event in Sydney (without any interstate, or internationals attending)

I support this, more events are always welcome. A long event sounds like fun assuming the prize pool is LARGE.

Entry fee depends on the tournament prize and such.

3 days sounds a bit long I really recommend you make sure you don't try and organise this soley on your own and instead speak to those who already run tournaments regularly such as dox, chris@cityhunter and so on to make sure you run a successful event.

That being said if you are a bit clearer with your goals and intentions then the gaming community would be faster to show their support. We are always really happy to see new events popping up but unfortunately many in the past have been poorly planned and hence I and im sure many others wait to see hard evidence of a good event before we jump on board and support it.

For more information on what we want from a good event:
1. A commentated stream, preferably a viewing area away from the actual players where live spectators can watch the commentary without the players overhearing.
2. Well-planned event with people deeply involved in the sc2 community helping run it.
3. doesn't run too late, finals get really sloppy when they are played past 10pm.

Was thinking of what to write, but I think you say it perfectly.

Im sure there would be plenty of people that would love to help and or play/go to an event like this, limiting factor will be the prizepool to attract the player I think.

i was mainly looking at a 3 day event due to the support i have behind me however the 2 day event does sound more manageable i would also make sure the event does not run too late as i would want the best final possible and i would not want a sloppy presentation i have received a few personal msgs from people who run these events so just having a chat to them gathering all your requests and then once i have all the information i will be releasing the prizes sponses and so forth

my goal for the event is to obviously promote E-Sports and the australian SC2 players.
my goal for the event is to produce an event that gains international recognition (long term goal) and to host an event that starcraft 2 players are excited to attend participate in and that players from all over australia and NZ would attend, As for broadcasting im talking to GOM.TV to see about organising a stream

Well I don't understand... Why are you contacting a Korean organisation to stream an Australian event? What exactly have you proposed to them? Surely I can't be the only one who is surprised by this?

Could you share a little more information about your company/team? What your prior affiliations with eSports are, who is in your team, what their experience is, etc. Feel free to grab me on Skype anytime, if you like. Details are in my signature. I'll happily help in any way I can. Just trying to ensure we don't find ourselves blindsided again.

Team name is WCG (wise choice gaming) Sats, Girds but i am not affiliating this with the team
the reason i aproached GOM is due to the amount of people that use GOM already and to reach a wider market i am not planing on creating another SC2 event im planing on creating the dreamhack of australia i have been playing starcraft since SC2 came out so i am very fresh as such however girds and sats and a few of my friends have been playing since brood wars and i have watched every event live streme since rolling out my first marine (yes im terran )
i beleive that there are some very talented and skilful players in australia my idea is to create an event to expose those players now this will not happen at the first event i know that but if i set the foundationd right at the start then the potential from there is only limited by the comunity
i understand your concern regarding been blind sided and its the reason i put it up as this is my idea and i asked for feedback im not intending on blind siding anyone and i am making this clear right now if the event isnt going to end up becoming "another event" then it probably will be a 1 off

Is this a Troll or what?...

Dreamhack works in Europe.. because there are millions more people there.. You simply do not have the market to develop an event like Dreamhack in Australia.
Sorry but it won't work and someone is going to lose alot of money if you try.. on that note, if you attempt to gain financial backing - good luck. No one in Australia will put the kind of money you will need behind an event in Australia.

The future for growing eSports in Aus, is events like ACL.. start small, become bigger. You can't just throw out a massive event and expect it to work.
Good luck tho...

Quick Comments
 PiG:
He said it wouldn't happen in the first event! Don't need to be quite so negative

I think what Dox might be saying is that Gom's a weird choice when Twitch.tv and Owned.tv are far more normal choices for western streamers/western events?

I'm curious as to what you sent to GOM.

The OP is horrible and no information is even giving except its in Australia, and if you sent this to any major casting organization they would laugh at you.

Sorry, but not feeling this one

EDIT:
I saw this on your Facebook just now
