Ladies and Gentlemen (but more importantly ladies), welcome to the very first edition of Starcraft 2 Scene News! Each week Deathsfang and Cute will be recapping the results of major tournaments around the world right here. From the GSL to the NASL, from the EG Masters Cup to a LAN party you threw in your mothers basement, we're covering it all*. These days there are so many tournaments happening simultaneously that its hard to follow them all, so sc2sea aims to become a one stop news site for the citizens of SEA to learn about all latest happenings in the world of Starcraft quickly and in just one post! And if you want to read more always feel free to follow the links!
1. HotS gameplay trailer:
While not exactly related to the multiplayer aspect that we all know and love, information on the singleplayer side to the first SC2 expansion has started to flood in. Though it's highly unlikely that any of the units seen in the gameplay trailer will actually make it into the multiplayer (Banelings exploding into more banelings? Split your marines now ha!), a little speculation never hurt anyone, right? Right. What are you hoping to see added in Heart of the Swarm?
What happens when a Zerg player rushes to 101 drones, creeps up the entire middle of the map, and then proceeds to lay down more spine crawlers than humanly countable? Most of the time they lose. But when that Zerg player is Nestea, the King himself, almost anything seems possible. Don't miss this crazy back and forth ZvT. As it's the first game in the series, it can be seen for free over at gomtv.net! Also look out for McDonald’s, uh, Incredible Miracles's brand new, somewhat controversial team shirts.
Would you like fries with those banelings?
3. Star Nation Documentary Trailer:
A cool glimpse at a proposed documentary made by Justin Agnew that's supposed to be focusing on the players behind the game. Watch it here. The footage shown is taken from MLG Dallas earlier this year. Maybe one day we can look forward to a full length feature documentary on Idra and Huks eternal rivalry?
This was by far one of the best games in the past few weeks. It was a really epic PvP between 2 great Sc2 players. The series was tied at 1-1 so everything was on the line for these 2 players. They are both fighting for a spot in the top 2 of their division so they can get to the playoffs.
Anyway, spawns were cross-position on Terminus RE and both players started off fairly standard. MC went for a unique build that in the next few weeks or months will probably become the new standard build for PvP instead of 4 gate into Colossus death ball off 2 bases. These games went so long the players were on 4 bases and were ready to take their fifths.
HasuObs was turtling up, trying to build up his deathball into a critical mass while trying to take his third. MC on the other hand, had other ideas. He started with gateway units, into a Robotics just for the observers, and then went Twilight Council with Blink. Until he built up his own deathball he left Zealots at his main because they are immobile units and took his Blink Stalkers to contain his opponent. HasuObs could not move out whatsoever. He was slowly building up his deathball while facing relentless hit-and-run tactics from MC.
While MC was doing this, he got a Templar Archives for the Archons, so his unit composition was Gateway/ Archons. And it worked so well against HasuObs’ Colossus/ Gateway deathball. Having trouble with PvP all you Brotoss players out there? Go watch this epic game of the new PvP Metagame!
MLG Columbus is less than twenty four hours away! The biggest names in the foreigner scene are up against not only each other, but some of the biggest names in Korean SC2 as well. Look out for Naniwa trying to defend his title, as well as July chewing his way through the open bracket. This time, more than money and glory is at stake, with high placing players given direct seeding into GSLs Code A Tournament. Who will come out on top? Tune in this weekend to find out!
As usual, the GSL and NASL are also continuing this week. With essentially every player left in the Super Tournament being a known name, excellent matches are a given. The NASL is finally reaching crunch time, and with players desperately trying to earn their way into the playoffs, tensions are sure to be high. Check them both out at gomtv.net and justin.tv/naslseasonone respectively.
That's it for this week, we'll be back next Friday with more Starcraft 2 related goodness! Also, this section is in dire need of a name, and both Cute and Deathsfang are far too lazy/uncreative to think of one. Let us know of any ideas! Suggestions must be witty/random/stupid/funny or they will not be considered!
*The LAN in your mothers basement may or may not actually be covered
