Introduction
We are the official University of Queensland Starcraft Society but anyone who plays/watches Starcraft is welcome to join. Our members range from UQ/QUT/Griffith students to alumni and people already in the work force.
I will keep this thread updated with the events we will host and feel free to post any extra ideas below.
AusCraft2 Down Under Derby
I received an email from Jimm Dean that invites our members to participate in an online tournament held in Australia with a $100 prize for first place.
Their site is www.auscraft2.com.au. I will also hand out their flyers on our meeting on Tuesday. The full email is below.
To the members of the University of Queensland Starcraft Society,
AusCraft 2 is holding its Inaugural AusCraft2 Down Under Derby [SEA] with a prize of $100 for first place.
We would like to invite all the members and friends of UQSS to take part.
A flyer for the tournament is attached please feel free to print or otherwise distribute to all those who would be interested in fun online tournament.
The IntoStarCraft Team League Qualifiers are here! Each University will have it's own individual qualifiers, in which the top 4 players will be selected to represent their University in the AU University Team League!
Anyone from any Australian or New Zealand University can join.
Registrations are open now! Spread the word, invite your friends, and lets make this an epic battle royale!
Now that the registration has closed, the UQSS has been placed into their own bracket. Unfortunately I have to play JimDiddy so there goes my chances of advancing.
Been wanting a private ventrillo server for starcraft and they are pretty cheap so i hired one for our UQSL. it's a 35 person limit so i doubt it'll fill up. Feel free to bring your SC friends online
Facebook Group
We tried moving to a facebook page and a website but both haven't been too popular so most of our stuff will be happening in the group and all the events will be listed to greater detail on the site. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=...07794662566070
Tournaments
We have been holding a fun tournament every week and so far nakka is in the lead with 3 (I think) wins.
Copied from Kevin Aldridge's post:
[spoiler]Introducing the first UQSS Monthly tournament. Please read the rules (they are pretty straightforward, less obvious/most important ones are at the top) and sign up if this is something you'd be interested in. Deadline is the 30th May.
Likewise for Jake Fortescue.[/spoiler/]
The event page for the monthly tournament is located here: UQSS Monthly Tournament #1
UPDATES
Thanks to everyone who attended the GSL finals screening. Hopefully next time I will arrive early so I don't miss all the pizza . The pictures of the event are located here: GSL Code S pictures
Contact
If you have any questions you can contact us through email (uqss@hotmail.com) or send me a PM. You can also post on this thread and one of our lovely members will be more than happy to help out
Yes, we need 30 members and of the starting 30, 30% can be from anywhere else. We all plan to meet at UQ between 11 and 12 if you can attend. If not we will work out alternate places where you guys can sign the expression of interest form (we have a few members from QUT so they could take the form there)
EDIT: We are all meeting on Tuesday 15th March (location: http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/4154/meeting.png) between 11am - 12pm. If you can't attend we will find a way to arrange an alternate meeting so you an sign the expression of interest form

Reason: Added meeting details
Cool! As you can see with my other posts, the meeting is on Tuesday if you can attend. If not its is gonna be on Friday between 13.10 and 14.10. You can also organize another time with me with you still can't attend. You just need to sign the form
Solmyr and I are from UQ and we'll definitely come along. I've been on the executive of the education society for 2 years now so If you guys need help starting up/dealing with the union I might be of assistance.
For starters, whoever told you that you need 30 people to start a society is full of shit. The UQ Sci-fi society started up last semester with 5 people.

Awesome see you there! The form says 30 people but yeh others told me its pretty relaxed.
The meeting is still on Tuesday
alright so when exactly is the meeting/s, i might not be able to make it on tuesday at the time you said, but i'll make it my priority over what else i may be doing so that the group can get set up
Hey Crank what was you idea for the website for the Society? Something about a forum, if you want to create that and ill just post it on the thread at TL so they know
Well I thought this place had subforums for the clans. I remember seeing something about that in the margin on the left side of the page but it doesn't appear to be there now. Perhaps it was removed with the latest site changes (or perhaps i'm just a noob and can't find it).
Also, It was awesome meeting all you guys today. This is going to be epic ^__^
What Chat Channel are we using?
