Smiley: Smile [PvZ] PvZ suggestions for a Platinum player looking to improve

Heya ^^

I'm currently in Platinum working through the ladder and my build for PvP and Terran are relatively clean and rehearsed, though in my PvZ match up I feel like I'm running around like a headless chicken with a crayon drawing of how things should go hovering in my head. I find it difficult to avoid getting too far behind from any zerg pressure which forces my attention and the building of units instead of tech and probes. This pressure can come in the form of cheesey ling plays (before wall is finished at natural) or relatively large roach pushes. Then, when I'm feeling actually pretty well set up in a PvZ I find a impressively large mutaball flying around my worker lines that is too large for an army split to deal with.

I'm wondering what would be a good build order for a Platinum protoss player to try out, I don't mind if it's a semi difficult build as I'll work towards it. I feel that currently I don't know when I should be focusing on strengthening my economy or getting ready for pressure with no real outlook towards further into the game other than 'get colossus'.

I greatly need to improve this match up by actually having a game plan and any assistance would be greatly appreciated .

Cheers, Wolf.

Sorry, I can't help you too much as i'm not . But being a diamond zerg what annoys me is pressure. You can't let a zerg just full out macro then expect to win. As for your ling problem how allin are we talking? 6pool? 10pool? or just very aggresive lings?

The early ling plays often come as I cannon out their expansion and as I'm not at the stage where I can defend the all in at that point yet, I've stopped cannoning out expansions lol. So they tend to be very all in but not that common if I don't try to deny the natural.

Also when would you expect to be pressured and what would the pressure be composed of?

you should be pressuring the zerg around the 6-8 minute mark, just forcing out a coupe of units is good. A neat little trick you could try is sending out a msc, zealot/stalker along with a probe to fake a 7gate all in. Build the pylon in the zerg's vision to make them crank out tons of units. Later, just cancel the pylon and retreat/recall. Additionally, whenever you leave your base, it's always good to have at least one sentry behind just in case. What i personally like doing is blocking off my natural entrance with a pylon each time i push. This way, you are safe from ling counter attacks etc... We protoss's know that is a pain in the ass T.T

One possible way to play PvZ if you're having trouble with early lings is to open gateway first, I'd suggest trying out the Naniwa build from dreamhack, it's really very solid.

Also hallucinations are your friend, you can keep almost constant scouting up on the zerg so you can spot the tech switches before they come to fruition.

Also in late game, make sure you have sufficient infrastructure to tech switch as necessary, there's nothing more annoying than not scouting a 40 muta switch and only have 1 stargate

Is this the build you would recommend? Looks pretty fun if I can get it down. I like the mind games that the false 7gate gives off, I'll have to give that a go aswell ^^

NaNiwa's build is actually really solid if you want to apply any sort of early pressure and expand (relatively) safely. I do something a bit similar myself. I always seem to find myself opening with stargate before robo due to the fact that I'm just godawful at dealing with mutas. One thing to note is that if you're being pressured by any type of muta harass and you don't have a stargate, blink stalkers are probably the way to go until you can tech into HT and Archons.

My advice is probably godawful though, so take it with a grain of salt.

This seems a bit unnecessary, just warp in a zealot or sentry and make it hold position

I feel this is much better when going Naniwa's build as it allows a much easier transition if you want to do a second all in. If you're walling off in a one square hole, the pylon will be very awkwardly placed and to me it always feels so risky, even to an extent possibly delaying your 3rd a bit if the naniwa pressure is back and forth for that long.

I personally use the stardust style. It's fun, safe, and aggressive. All in all it's FFE 2-1+charge 7 gate 1 robo timing attack with a 8:30 to 9:30 3rd minerals only base.

It transitions in to a follow up 2-2 attack

Day9 has a daily about it.
