Time for a different blog to hit! Or rather, one that has been seen before but hasn't been seen in a long time.
Like the title, I got myself a new desktop rig. If you were in chat during Monday, you would've seen the questions and discussion. I was suppose to get the parts only on Thursday (is a public holiday this week here in ), assemble the parts on Friday and do everything from installing to transferring of data during the weekend.
However, a stroke of pure dumb panda luck and some of my floormates were heading in the general area of the parts shop. More dumb luck was that they had all the parts and even recommended some changes.
Original (made by me with careful consideration from alot of feedback):
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD7850 OC 2GB
Intel Core i5-3570 3.4GHz
MSI MS-7680 H61M-P23
Corsair Vengence DIMM 8GB DDR3 1600
Unknown Power supply 600W
SeaGate Barracuda 500GB
ASUS DVD +/-RW 24x12x16
Unknown Casing
The recommendation from the guy in the shop:
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD7850 OC 2GB
Intel Core i5-3570 3.4GHz
MSI MS-7680 H61M-P23
Corsair Vengence DIMM 8GB DDR3 1600
Cooler Master RS-700-ASABL3-UK GX Lite Power 700W PSU
SeaGate Barracuda 500GB
ASUS DVD +/-RW 24x12x16
Cooler Master Casing
Now, I thought I'd have to do it. That was until I made payment and then
Shop dude: Okay, be back here in 45 minutes to pick it up. Me: Whut? Shop dude: Be back here in 45 minutes. We'll have it up and running. Me: O_O Err...okay!
45 Minutes Later...
I come back and turns out there has been a hiccup. The motherboard just refuses to play nice with everything else and I was asked if it was okay to switch it out.
Shop dude: Err...the motherboard is not working. So, we'll be switching it out for another one. Me: Okay. Which one and will there be any additional cost? Shop dude: That one *points* and no, the new motherboard is actually cheaper. So, I'll be refunding cash to you. Just give us another 10 to 20 minutes. Me: O_O Okay!
He replaced the previous motherboard for this one: ASUS P8H77-M LE REV 3.0 115
20 Minutes And Some Shaved Ice Later...
My new desktop is ready to be brought home and have the OS installed. Now, I would have gotten myself Windows 7 is it wasn't for the fact that all they had was 32bit and the only 64bit OS they had was Windows 8. Oh well. Beggars can't be choosers I guess.
24 Hours Later...
All I can say is that Windows 8 is cool, FRAPS is capped at 60FPS for most of the games I've tested and I'm looking forward to playing some Starcraft II on this bad girl!

well done. you should tootally do a review of windows 8. As a matter of habit i steer clear of new OSs for ages after release. I like 7, although think it chews way more resources and dumbs down too many utilities. Be good to know if the "our users are dumb and slow" mentality is still strong at MS.
