I'm ******* good at procrastinating. Extremely good at it, and it affects how much I might train in a given day. I train more the closer to a tourney but that's bad, you should train a lot because you want to be as good as you can. I read about a study that concluded that negatives for failure are more motivational then rewards for success, essentially a Carrot and Stick system but inverted. The carrot is poisonous and we want to avoid eating it.

So starting from tomorrow (it's 3:30 am here ffs) I'm going to introduce a new factor for my training days. I will play a certain number of games, 30-40 I am unsure might start at 35, and if I do not do this in that day then I will donate $50 to SC2SEA to be used as nirvana deems best. We'll see how well this works and if I'll be man enough to actually go ahead with it if I don't finish it. I also encourage my fellow Fray chums to kick me up the arse regularly if I happen to be dragging, peer pressure also works for this!

As for other happenings, The hobbit is a jolly good bit of fun, the dwarves form a much more entertaining fellowship then the original fellowship though perhaps I'm a touch biased there. The only valid criticism I could come to was that it seems like you're supposed to watch all the movies without having to wait a year or two for the next one to come out but oh well it's still good.

To ray: I wanted to make it a real amount so I'd feel motivated!

To Chase: Streaming is an excellent motivator especially if you have a lot of viewers going but I experience a loss of FPS that is extremely frustrating particularly during the larger battles.

To Mafia: Procrastination doesn't make sense, don't question that. Your bet is extremely tempting but getting into a most games played contest with you I might as well piss money of a ******* bridge.

35 games is still quite a bit depending on how the games turn out. Wonder if you'll be madly scrambling to fill the quota at 3am proxy 11/11raxing :P Good luck either way

Re: A motivation experiment

If you are procrastination to do training/ play a certain amount of games each day, does this mean you are not enjoying the process (which is why you are procrastinating in the first place)?

Running, as an example, may not appeal to everyone but if you buy yourself a cool watch with a heart monitor where you can track your progress, plan how far and fast you want to run by X date, and hopefully set yourself a target (e.g. city to surf) you can become very motivated and actually want to run each day rather than having to run because of potential punishments if you don't. I think for the long term, a stick approach is not really going to work, although in the short term it probably isn't too bad.

Maybe you can making training fun somehow and set some really good goals for yourself. You will need to check off your achievements or at least record them somewhere (e.g. set up an excel spreadsheet that shows what areas you have improved in). I really think that you should enjoy the process otherwise it will be pushing uphill for a long time and you may eventually burn out unless something changes.

I to procrastinate when it comes to laddering. A lot of people call this "the ladder shakes" but its not that I'm afraid its just that I waist too much time. Ill be sitting at my computer bored and instead of even playing games and becoming better, I waist it just sitting there doing nothing. I don't know what to do about this.

the idea behind it is play more games, not so much winning or losing the bet

Re: A motivation experiment

The problem with that is what constitutes a game. you could theoretically 6pool 80 times a day and win ezpz. Sure you've fucked yourself up in terms of practice (unless you like doing 6pools for whatever reason) but you still win the bet. Obviously this is an extreme example but I still feel like one player will have an unfair advantage through lower average game time which we can manipulate if we want to.

I mean it sounds like a lot of fun and (un)friendly competition is nice and all but I'm unsure how we get to resolve that issue.

Re: A motivation experiment

An alternative solution is just to give yourself a set amount of hours to play per day. The key will be finding a way to regulate the time (between games, watching replays etc.) to minimise downtime.
