So a big pet peeve of mine is how Valve will price gouge games on the Aus/ANZ store as well as how patently oblivious some people are to this typically illegal practice.
Out of boredom I made a complaint thread in steam discussions and had a bunch of retards try to tell me I had no idea what I was talking about despite backing up my claims with evidence... you know typical internet stupidity, my fault for bothering
But one good thing came of it
One retard, In the same paragraph as trying to explain that no store is permitted to sell games for any price other that what was specified by the publisher also mentions an online store that does just that
As an example; currently on Steam XCOM is on sale for a little bit more than $46. Thats the same price as ozgameshop normally. I bought Black Ops 2 from there for $56 AU where its $90 on steam.
The store is run out of UK but they offer free shipping to Australia for hard copies. So just if you order a digital key it won't arrive until late night Aus time.
TL;DR Check the site out for good prices and avoid purchasing from steam unless you are outside AU/ANZ or its an Indie title or you happen to like throwing your money away
I think one thing to keep in mind is the huge amount of indie games in the steam sale. Feel free to avoid some of the bigger names (especially if they are on that site you mentioned) - but be sure to check out the indie games, there are some fantastic games there, like Frozen Synapse and Mark of the Ninja.
Yeah, i only buy indies or the occasional good deal, like Darksiders 2 for $17 in the halloween sale (i think it was) or some older games, otherwise i just buy from ozgameshop too.
Only time i find it worth buying on steam is when a indie is on sale, or a super good deal for a bigger title.
I've gotten some cheap pc keys from GameFanShop.com
You may have seen them advertised on player streams.
I've never really had a big issue with GFS, they email the key within 10-20min. Their games are almost always a better price, except during that click frenzy thing the other day, I picked up some nice stuff like AC3 and Pokemon Black 2 for under $35 each.
When we ran a Borderlands 2 competition one of the 3 steam keys we bought didn't work and they replaced it straight away.
www.gamefanshop.com/partner-NonFictionGaming/ supports our website through the affiliate program. Not the biggest range, but has the big PC games, CoD, Hitman, Need for Speed Most wanted and so on.
For example:
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 $57.99
5% discount using coupon at checkout: nonfictiongamingspecial $2.90
Sub total $55.09 USD
$55.09 USD = $53.04 AUD(ish)
Be informed and don't pay more than you have to.
Or if you don't want to support www.nonfictiongaming.com we still love you, just use gamefanshop.com without the partner bit .
Meatex, i just noticed your link for ozgameshop is wrong
it's www.ozgameshop.com
no .au in the URL
Oops ^^ you are right
Yeah I got spoilt while in Korea where we got US store prices for all games
And while indie games are priced same everywhere published titles are a lot more expensive on Aus/ANZ
And while it may be illegal I'm pretty sure to use steam you have relinquish your right to class action law suits and god know what other rights.
Anyway there are several alternatives like cd key websites and ozgameshop.com for bypassing the price gouging.
Just wanted to make a post cause I mentioned the price differences on a youtube video and someone replied completely oblivious to the fact that he was paying 50~100% more than people in other regions
I can vouch for ozgameshop.com and for hotcdkey.com which were both cheap and fast
Not sure if wonderfully-well-informed advertising bot, or just lurker with starsense.
Parse error 30.... Erm.. I mean.
Just happy to share the good word of saving money. Of course I'm up front that we gain from it if you use our partner link. In the end, of course make your own choice.
Didn't intend to spam or anything, just easy(ish) information to digest and make choices.
To follow on OP, I also use OzGameShop for any hard copy games I want
